Dear Parent/ Carer

Planning for Higher Education

As part of our planning for Higher Education, we propose to take all Year 12 students to the UCAS Higher Education Fair, which will be hosted by Keele University and Staffordshire University on Friday 13th June. This event will take place at the Leek Road Campus, Stoke on Trent.

This falls on the last day of Exam Leave for Year 12 but we feel this is a worthwhile visit and expect all students applying to higher education to participate.

There will be over 120 higher education and further education institutions exhibiting, with advisers who can talk about their own institutions, the qualifications required to get on to specific courses, the cost of accommodation, etc. Exhibitors will also include representatives from UCAS, the Teacher Training Agency, as well as Student Finance England for students who wish to seek advice on Student Loans, Tuition Fees, etc. There will also be a series of subject seminars. Full details of what is available will be discussed with students during assembly on 9th May.

We will depart from school at 9.30 am and return at approximately 2.45 pm. Students may choose to bring a packed lunch or purchase food on site.

Attendance at this event is important. Experience has shown us those students who are well prepared in terms of their choices, and make their UCAS applications early, tend to have a wider range of offers from universities.

In order for this visit to go ahead we are asking for a contribution of £6.00 towards the cost of transport which is already subsidised by school funds. If you agree to your son/daughter taking part in this visit, please complete the reply slip and return it to the Sixth Form office. Please ensure you make your payment via Parent Pay by Friday 9th May 2014.

All bona fide educational visits by Staffordshire schools are covered by the county council’s public liability insurance, as are all in-school activities. This visit is considered to have only normal everyday risks and no further insurance has been provided.

Yours sincerely

MR A SILVERWOOD
