purpose: People credited with this unit standard will be able to apply knowledge of the preparation, planting, cultivation, protection, irrigation, nutrition, and harvesting requirements of a defined crop to manage, use, and control resources in the development of that crop to meet specified market requirements.

element 1
Identify health and production requirements for defined horticulture crop.
performance criteria
1.1 Analysis of crop production activities identifies key elements which must be addressed in management of each production phase.
Range: preparation, planting, cultivation, irrigation, protection, nutrition, harvesting.
1.2 Analysis of crop information sources identifies health problems which may have to be addressed in crop management plans.
Range: research documentation, site records, seed and plant providers, industry and private advisors.
element 2
Define procedures for production and plant health maintenance activities.
performance criteria
2.1 Definition development identifies methods to be used to carry out each phase of production for the defined crop.
2.2 Definition developed identifies methods to be used to deal with plant health problem possibilities, identified and unidentified, which may arise.
2.3 Resource requirement schedules developed define resources required for the implementation of methods defined for each production phase.

element 3
Manage crop production and maintenance of crop health.
performance criteria
3.1 Daily resource use and implementation of activity schedules support achievement of optimum plant growth and health.
3.2 Resource re-allocation and re-scheduling procedures adopted enable response to unforeseen occurrences as they arise.
3.3 Communication procedures adopted ensure all parties involved in production activities are familiar with plans and any changes made to them.
3.4 Feedback from established evaluation practices provides information for resolution of procedure problems.
