UNIT Thermal Energy / Essential Question:
- How do we use the concept of thermal energy in our daily lives? (Thermal Energy)
- How do waves helps us understand our world better and improve the quality of our lives? (Waves)
Students will be able to describe how different types of waves move through and around different materials. (Waves)
Objectives:
- Describe the direction thermal energy flows.
- Describe how adding or removing thermal energy affects the temperature and state of matter of an object.
- Understand temperatures relationship with average molecular kinetic energy.
- Describe the 3 forms of heat transfer: radiation, conduction, and convection
- Identify materials that heat can and cannot move through. (Thermal Energy)
2. Identify the basic properties of waves.
3. Describe how reflection, refraction, diffraction and interference change a wave’s motion. (Waves) / SC.7.P.11.4#: Observe and describe that heat flows in predictable ways, moving from warmer objects to cooler ones until they reach the same temperature.
SC.7.P.10.3#: Recognize that light waves, sound waves, and other waves move at different speeds in different materials.
