REHEARSALS/ PERFORMANCES

It is not surprising that performances are an important part in studying the performing arts. Grading will be based on actual execution of the performance skills, preparedness, and reliability in rehearsals and in the theatre. Students are required to participate in each dance concert. If a dancer is not dancing in the concert due to an injury, they are required to work backstage during the rehearsals and performances. NO OTHER COMMITMENTS SHOULD BE MADE DURING THE REHEARSAL/ PERFORMANCE WEEKS. If additional rehearsal time is needed, you will be given sufficient prior notice.

December 6 and December 7, 2013- Winter Dance Concert, 7:30p.m. ( Earl Reece Theatre )

May 9 and May 10, 2014- Spring Dance Concert, 7:30p.m. ( Earl Reece Theatre )

NO EXCUSES-DON’T EVEN ASK: After school rehearsals will be held the week of the performance. If additional rehearsals are required, students will be given sufficient notice. The performance will count as a grade. A dancer can be removed from a piece for an unexcused absence and will receive a zero grade. Understudies are very important and follow the same rules as listed for rehearsals. A dancer who does not participate in class on the day of ANY performance or rehearsal will NOT be allowed to participate/ perform.

IN ACCORDANCE WITH COBB COUNTY POLICY: A STUDENT MUST BE PRESENT-AND IN CLASS-BY AT LEAST 11:30 A.M. TO REHEARSE OR PERFORM.

IT IS MANDATORY THAT DANCERS PARTICIPATE IN CLASS. IF A STUDENT HAS AN EXTENDED ILLNESS, INJURY OR CONDITION THAT PROHIBITS HIM/HERFROM DANCING OR PARTICIPATING IN CLASS, the student will be referred to Mr. Timmerman. Any student who misses dance class and is unable to dance is required to bring a doctor’s note and an alternate make-up assignment will be given. (Check with the teacher for your assignment.)

GRADING SYSTEM: Grading is based on the Georgia Performance Dance Standards.
Grades will be assigned on the basis of a point system. Performing arts students must maintain an average of 80 in their major to remain in the CCCEPA program. Students must pass all academic classes to remain eligible to perform.
County grading policy is observed.

The school-wide policy for makingup work is in effect. All missed, excused classes may be made up. In addition, points will be deducted for dress code violations, tardiness from changing clothes, and non-participation that is not made up. Grades from each instructor will be averaged for a final grade. The instructors will be evaluating correct positions and placement, correct execution of steps, ability to put combinations together, and application of corrections. The instructor may administrator a skill test or written test at any time.

50%:

20%: Final

Written: 10%

All grades are out of 100%

The three six weeks’ grades will be averaged for a cumulative semester grade. Make-up work is accepted by the end of the second day after the excused absence for which the class is missed. Make-up work must be completed and turned in to the instructor for which the class was missed. If a student observes a class, this does not count as active participation. If a student does not participate, he/she must actively observe class. Example: no library, no homework, going to another class, sleeping, socializing, etc. Check with theinstructor of the missed class for options of make-up work. Also, if you are too sick to participate in a Pebblebrook class, you should NOT participate in a class at a private studio.

Attendance and participation are required. Students are responsible for class material and workmissed due to absences. Students should be aware that an excused absence is still an absence. The excuse merely means that missed work may be made up.

ALL make up ASSIGNMENTS MUST BE TYPED

EXAMPLES OF MAKE-UP WORK:TALK TO THE INSTRUCTOR FIRST FOR APPROVAL.
