BIBCO/CONSER/NACO/SACO At-Large Meetings

Agenda

BIBCO (10:20-10:40)

§  PCC End date for AACR2 announcement update (5 min.)

o  Two areas directly relating to BIBCO were added in this update:

§  Editing an existing non-RDA record that is already coded PCC: Cataloger may edit an existing non-RDA PCC monograph record without converting it to RDA (e.g., to add non-roman script fields, update an incomplete multipart monograph record). However for integrating resources, cataloging should convert it to RDA if the edits are based on a later iteration.

§  Describing a reproduction of the resource in a different form: it is permissible to authenticate the new record for microform reproduction of a monograph as PCC without converting it to RDA

§  Updates from OpCo (10 min.) (see “Operations Meeting Outcomes 2014” on the PCC homepage)

o  PCC RDA BSR update

§  2014 update highlights: inclusion of information relating to use of DCRM(G) and DCRM(M) when cataloging rare graphic and rare music materials; section on archival control now applies to collections of materials in all formats; reorganized notes column and made it clearer which category of material the notes applied to; corrected typos and cut/paste errors; updated rule numbers to reflect changes in RDA Toolkit.

o  BIBCO Participants’ Manual Appendix on Annotated Record Examples and ECIP cataloging

§  The idea of providing a BIBCO Participants’ Manual appendix with annotated record examples met with mixed reactions. The PCC Secretariat will continue to collect annotated BIBCO record examples for different formats. The examples will be included in the BIBCO training material so the examples can be updated easily if needed.

§  BPM has been updated since January 2014 to add ECIP cataloging related information.

o  Microform reproduction of monographs

§  PoCo approved SCS’s recommendation that it is permissible to authenticate the new record as PCC without converting it to RDA.

o  Records for print resources and 007 for related online versions

§  OpCo participants agreed not to code 007 when using the single-record approach for related online resources to print records. SCS will take the recommendation to PoCo for approval

o  FAST (Faceted Application of Subject Terminology)

§  PCC members may create BIBCO Standard Records with only FAST subjects assigned.

§  Information documented in BPM

§  “FAST Headings for Cataloging” training cheat sheet developed and shared by Cornell: http://lts.library.cornell.edu/lts/pp/cat/127FAST

§  Membership news (5 min.)

o  ProQuest joined the BIBCO program and is planning to contribute PCC BIBCO records through the Library of Congress ECIP Cataloging Partnership Program.
