PAWS for HAUDE NEWS

MAY/JUNE2013

School Hours

Per the Klein ISD school calendar, in 2013-14Haude’s morning bell will ring at8:15 a.m. with announcements immediately following. Students who arrive after the next bell at 8:20 a.m. will be considered tardy. Along with this change, we will now be holding “No Tardy Parties” at the end of each nine weeks for those students who have not received any tardies for that time period. These parties may include special privileges, extra recess, or other fun treats to encourage all to be on time and ready to learn!

Music news

The Haude Jaguar Choir and Chimes will be performing their end of the year concert on Tuesday, May 7at 7 p.m. in the Haude cafeteria. Please come out to support the students as they have worked very diligently (with lots of early mornings) to prepare the music for the concert. The music teachers have enjoyed sharing music with your students this year!

The second grade classes will be performing their spring musical on Thursday, May 9 at 7 p.m. in the Haude cafeteria. They will be performing “Welcome to the Jungle”. The students have been working on the musical during music class and many have speaking parts they have learned at home. We can’t wait to put everything together with singing, speaking and choreography for a fabulous spring musical!

Clinic News

Fever PolicyKlein ISD fever policy, which can be found in the student handbook, states, “Disease Control Measures: Fever (100.4 or greater): Readmit when the child has been free of fever for 24 hours.” In order to return to school, the student must be fever free for a period of 24 hours without the assistance of fever-reducing medication such as acetaminophen or ibuprofen. We appreciate your help in securing the health of our students.

Medication pick up and destructionIf you have provided the clinic with medication this year to administer to your child, please pick up your child’s medications from the clinic on or before Thursday, June 6, 2013.This is the last day of school. Medications that are not picked up by 3:30 p.m. will be destroyed. No exceptions please. This includes inhalers, epipens, and diastat. Medications cannot be kept in the clinic over the summer for next year. The clinic staff will not be able to call with reminders to pick up medications. If you have a question concerning your student’s medicine, please call the clinic before June 6. We apologize that we are no longer able to send any medications, even if they are over-the-counter medications, home with students.

Ms. Vigneaux and I have really enjoyed caring for your students throughout this year and are looking forward to seeing them in the fall! We will certainly miss our exiting 5th grade students! Thank you for your kind assistance and have a great summer!

Parents, please be alert to lost library books and/or textbooks that may turn up before school ends. Like everything else, the cost of replacing these books will be greater next year. Your help is appreciated.

Lost & Found - Please check the Lost & Found for lost articles of clothing. Our supply has grown truly large! Any articles not claimed by the end of this year will be given away to charity.

Sign-In/Out Procedures

As the year ends, here is a reminder that sign in/out procedures allow for better communication regarding the security of your child. Teachers will request that these procedures be followed for the accurate accounting of your child. We must have the signature of the adult bringing the child in late or signing the child out early. If you are having another adult pick up your child, we request you send us a note and a phone number where we can reach you if we have questions. Please remind these individuals that ID will be required before we release your child.

You are welcome to eat lunch with your child, however, we do ask that you sign in and wear a nametag. We have a special parent table for you to sit and enjoy your lunch together. Even as the year comes to an end, we want to remain focused and alert to make sure our students are safe.Thank you for your help in following and supporting these procedures.

In the News

In the April 21stSunday Houston Chronicle, the Children at RiskSchool Report Card was published. It used a weighted formula based on multiple measures. Haude was one of 4 KISD schools to receive an “A.” The others were Hassler, Benignus and Mueller. Haude was rated 104 out of 775 elementary schools in the eight-county area. Way to go!

Teacher and Staff Appreciation Week

Teacher and Staff Appreciation is May 6ththrough May 10th. We will be showing our appreciation for Haude teachers and staff during this week. You may also want your child to write his/her teacher or special staff member a note of thanks and appreciation.

Pull Tab Collection Still Going Strong!

Haude’s developmental class will be collecting pull tabs from cans to donate to the Houston Ronald McDonald House through the end of the school year. From there they will be taken to a recycling center who will give the Ronald McDonald House cash for the tabs based on weight. This is an easy way to help support families who are traveling far from home to get treatment for seriously ill or injured children.

Attendance Guidelines

Please be reminded that a student who missed eighteen (18) or more days of school during the school year may not be given credit except as noted below:

  • Illness of the student as verified by a doctor’s written statement showing dates of absence.
  • A parent’s written request for a homebound teacher.
  • Extenuating circumstances approved by the principal or campus attendance committee.

Any student with 18 or more absences will have his/her attendance record reviewed by the campus attendance committee regardless if parent or doctor notes were submitted.
