4:18 p.m. Academic Culture—Recognition/NHS/Graduation/Etc.

Tapping process can be disruptive when many in class are tapped, demoralizing for hopefuls in same class who are not tapped.

Visibility strengthens the promotion of an academic culture.

Future will probably include exploration of Laude system to replace current process of class ranking.

Recognition opportunities using “Eagles in the Crowd” by the Lounge (Michelle Baxter).

Look for opportunities to spotlight students that are turning their performance around over the course of their HS careers.

4:31 p.m. Student Enrollment Trends and Comps

Paul shared data that was also shared with Coordinators, student enrollment trends have not fluctuated much in the past several years. Paul also shared the Badger Conference comparables for graduation credit requirements and ours are very similar to the majority of the other HSs. Our trends do not show a negative impact on electives. Requiring 7 classes vs 6 is possible but when considered in the past, teachers have been concerned about having disinterested students in their classrooms. However, this is an avenue for pushing students to try out a variety of elective areas.

The incoming Freshmen class is smaller by about 20 students. We will have 25-30 open enrollement students.

Departments can help students be aware of options in class offerings and coach them in basing their decisions off of their goals for the future. Science has used teacher video clips to help explain course content to students. World Languages have 5th year students write a letter to 4th year students sharing their views on the value of taking a 5th year.

Our open enrollment students tend to come from the surrounding area: LaFollette/East and many have been in club sports and/or other outside connections and therefore have friends in the MG community. This helps with their transition and fitting into our school community.

It is likely that DPI will propose that 3 years of Science & Math be required and it is quite likely this would pass.

4:44 p.m. SIP Team Updates

4:53 p.m. Other

Senior Final Exams will be held Tues. 5/28 & Weds. 5/29 with makeups on Thurs. 5/30. Graduation practice will be held on Fri. 5/31.

It would be nice to find a way to allow students to see the drama, forensic and show choir performances without having to take class time for assemblies. Would it be possible to have performances on grading ½ days that interested students could attend.

It may be useful to have a Spring Activities Fair as well as the Fall one to help build student awareness of after school club opportunities. Could be held after school or maybe during the make-up period of semester exams.

There was good student feedback from the First Wave assembly.
