AGENDA

  1. Welcome & Pledge

6:17 pmSt. Hilaire welcomed parents and teachers.

A student did the pledge of allegiance.

  1. Review February minutes

6:18 pmSt. Hilaire asked the attendees to review the February minutes for errors.

St. Hilaire asked for a motion to begin the meeting.

  1. Principal Updates – Ms. Parris

6:19 pmMs. Parris thanked the teachers for coming to the SAC meeting and supporting their school even though they have been at work all day since 7:30 am.

Ms. Parris thanked the SAC committee for allocating funds for teacher incentives. Because of the fund allocation, every teacher in the whole school was able to receive a t-shirt. All the testing teachers had treats for students taking the FSA writing test.

Other schools have not taken the Writing test so please do not discuss the writing prompt with others.

Earth Day fundraiser. A light green flyer will be sent home with information about a fundraiser for Earth Day. If 1 student shows up, the school will receive a check for $1500.00. If PLE has the most students show up, the school receives a check for $3000.00. All of the funds will go to incentives for students and staff.

Reading Camps, Math Camps and Honor Roll Assembly have taken place last week.

The Black History show was last week and it was a huge success! Next year Ms. Parris would like to have a Museum for the whole month of February.

Ms. Parris would like to have activities planned for Hispanic Heritage month as well as all the other ethnicities that are represented at PLE.

Ms. Parris went to MSD with other educators to support the parents and students who went back to school after the tragic events that occurred on Valentines’ Day. She listened to the stories of the children and could not imagine the horrific events that took place on that tragic day.

SAFETY AND SECURITY CONCERNS:

Rick Scott signed a bill for non-classroom teachers to be able to carry concealed weapons at the school.

District has mandated that all students in all grade level to wear badges, uniforms for all schools, and for all perimeters of the school to be secured at all times.

Currently, the campus monitors are between the fifth grade and Welcome Center from 8-12 noon. There is one hour that is not accounted for and we are trying to find a solution to that.

Master Keys

There are 6 Grandmaster keys, which is the first level of keys and can get into any door of the school. Then there are Master keys (second level of keys) which can open classroom doors and offices and the third level of keys is the keys utilized by the coaches that open classroom doors only.

The district wants fire drills and procedures to be in place.

The safety team, which consisted of team leaders, administration and other staff members went over the safety procedures thoroughly. Next time, the safety team will invite SAC members to sit in on the meeting. The active shooter drill was practiced at PLE a couple of years ago, but if it were to happen, the reality is, you would not know the time or location so it is important to always be aware of our surroundings.

Over the next 4 months, the district will investigate the shooter at MSD. That means they will go back into his records as far back as elementary school to see who his teachers were and to see what interventions were put into place by these teachers. It is important for teachers to protect themselves by always having documentation for the students in their classes.

We are bound by safety and academics. The state wants a reason to shut down schools. We are doing our best but there is always room for improvement.

  1. Title One Updates- Ms. Campbell

6:41 pmMs. Campbell thanks Ms. Rachel from Jason’s deli who provided the refreshments that were served. Ms. Campbell and Jason’s deli will partner together to set up a Spring Break fundraiser and Ms. Rachel hopes that everyone can attend.

The Parent involvement is now called the Parent and Family engagement plan. Ms. Campbell urged parents to go to school board meeting on behalf of their children and their schools. The parent involvement plan has activities for parents to work on with their children. The school compact agreement is the agreement between schools, parents, the students and the community. Parents and teacher reviewed the 2017-2018 Parent and Family Plan. Also they reviewed the School compact form. Everyone gave input and agreed to implement the same parent trainings and compact agreements.

A title 1 survey will come home next week. Please fill out the survey and send it back to school.

6:51 pmOn Mon, March 12, PLE will have STREAM night from 6-7:30 pm in the cafeteria.
