End of Summer Term 2017

Maple Class have enjoyed the Water Sand and More Topic taking part in many exciting activities.

We eventually went to the Aquadrome at Rickmansworth; Julie has thought of offering her services to drought stricken countries as we kept being rained off! We were able to listen to the ducks and the water in the lake. It was great fun. We are very grateful to Barbara for driving the bus for us.

We have also enjoyed being with our friends and have shown ‘kind hands’ when playing with others in our class. We have done a lot of exploring especially using wet sensory items. Mohanad was happy to reach for the soap from his Care Box and happily used both hands to feel it.

Oak class have had a fun term exploring Water Sand & More! We really enjoyed our sensory stories where we were out in a boat, met a whale and got rescued by Pirates!

We have also been growing lots of vegetables and our class had the winning name ‘Jingle Jangle’ for the Scarecrow.

Pine Class have been busy exploring water in different ways, having fun adding water to different materials and finding out what happens. Popping candy and liquid soap changing into bubbles were the favourites! We have made boats to float on water, watched boats made from ice melt and dropped different objects into water, listening to the splash and seeing if they float or sink. We have explored water of different temperatures and used coloured ice cubes to create marks on paper. In Role Play sessions, we have washed and cleaned dolls teeth and tried cleaning ours and have been busy washing dolls clothes.

We have been very busy working hard in Elm Class and we particularly enjoyed our visit to the woods for a bear hunt!

A story about Cedar class’ trip to Janice’s farm!

We started with a bumpy ride in the bus. The children from Cedar class who went were Sophie, Maryam, Monica, Sannah, Ibby and Thomaz.

When we arrived we saw Janice Martin, Becca and Freddie. He is Janice’s grandson.

He did a lot of running.

We sat on garden chairs and some people sat on the haystacks,

There was a cat, dog some chickens, we gave some milk to the lambs and we walked along a very bumpy track to a barn.

There were cows and their calves in the barn. There was also a bull.

We ate our sandwiches and had a lovely cream tea that Janice had baked.

Then we had a dance in the courtyard; Country dance music.

Back on the bus; down the bumpy road and round the roundabout before going back to school. What a lovely day!

Thank you very much to Janice for letting us visit the farm.

A trip to Hampton Court!

We went on the bus with Rebecca, Maggie and Wendy. Yanu was sitting next to Thomaz. Rebecca had a private call come through on the phone. It was a long conversation.

The journey took one hour. On the other bus were Christie, Chase and Harrison.

We had a picnic when we arrived. And we saw Jingle Jangle the Sunshine House Scarecrow who was standing with lots of other scarecrows.

We met lots of people at the show. Anthony was behind a stall and he let us go up the ramp and feel all the grass animals.

We met a man called Nick at the Blind veteran’s flower garden. And a man called Lewis who was 93 with lots of medals. Joe Swift, Alex Jones, Mary Berry, and John Sergeant were some of the celebrities at the show. Thomaz talked to John Sergeant.

Do you present the news? He said ‘Yes but not now. .

’Who did you dance with on strictly come dancing.’ ‘With my partner’

Then we got back on the bus and Thomaz talked all the way home! Dad was waiting for Thomaz at school.

Mulberry Class have been very busy this term, both in and out of class, such as taking a lead role in growing the plants in preparation for the Hampton Court Scarecrow Competition. Come and visit our beautiful garden outside our classroom! Out of class, Mulberry have gone berry picking at Rickmansworth Aquadrome. We have also been doing lots of art work on our topic ‘Space’.

The lovely Summer weather has meant that Willow class have been out to Northwood many times to buy items for school. We have been returning library books for the school and we made a special trip to Baskin Robbins ice-cream parlour. We had ‘American Birthday Cake’, ‘Mississippi mud’ and ‘jamoca’. Some of us loved the tastes and some enjoyed the smells but we all enjoyed the lovely coolness on a hot day.

We shared our assembly on Eid al Fitr with the rest of the school, it was nice to share the fig cake and decorate it with others.

We were lucky enough to have two student nurses this term, we wish them well as they return to their studies.

Hampton Court Visit

Sunshine was given the opportunity to enter into a scarecrow competition.

The theme was ‘A walk on the wild side’.

We made ‘Jingle Jangle’ by recycling the children’s milk tins and plants that we have grown from seed and from our sensory garden.

A small group of children had tickets to go to the show ground on press day.

We had fun exploring lots of exciting things for the garden. It was an amazing day!

Someone really enjoyed doing a celebrity hunt!

There was a beautiful display of 70 scarecrowsfrom schools all over the country.

We were invited to one of the show gardens – The blind Veterans garden. This was a beautiful sensory garden which won a RHS Gold medal.

On the Monday after the show we found out the results of the scarecrow competition……………

Sunshine House School won second prize and £150 garden vouchers for us to spend!

FOSH Summer Fair

We had another very successful summer fair; there was lots to do, we had Tim Godwin and his dad come with Mrs Tea Pot’s pipe organ, to entertain the children and some of the adults!

We had a balloon hunt with pirate sayings that the children enjoyed finding; theirface painting, a bouncy castle and hook a duck.

A free Pimms bar was on hand, plenty of homemade cakes, strawberries and cream, and also delicious homemade samosas made by Immi and her family.

We were very lucky this year to have Memo who are a specialist orthotic shoe company showing a range of foot wear and doing fittings; the company Special Tomato were also on hand showing a wide variety of specialist seating.

And finally, the summer fair wouldn’t be a summer fair without a raffle, which was again sponsored by Robsons the estate agents.

This year we raised a fantastic £1654.27 for FOSH.

We would like to say a huge thank you to all those who bought /sold raffle tickets. Made cakes samosas, sent in things for the stalls or manned a stall. None of this would be possible without you!

Sports Day

The weather may have delayed the start to our sports day on Wednesday morning, but it didn’t put off the large crowd of parents, family and friends joining us for a hectic and fun-filled morning. Pupils took part in a variety of challenges from bike-riding, power chair racing, sensory trials and comical dressing up and gardening relays. The determination that everyone showed in their races was incredible. A big thank you to everyone that came along to lend their voices and support.

Year 6 Achievement Assembly

The end of the Summer Term is a wonderful time to celebrate the children’s development and progress. This year we saw just how far our Year 6 children have come on their journey towards secondary education. There was lots of nostalgia as we saw Blain enjoying the feel of sand between her toes and Ibrahim welcoming his younger brother to join him with some instrument playing. We saw Kai dressed as a pirate even though he was on an aeroplane at the time. We could see Kamal having a fun time with some jolly glasses. Finally Parth looked really happy with his swimming accompanied by previous members of staff. Good luck to all the children joining Justyn and his team in Y7 next year.

Swimming Certificates

We can always see how much the children achieve when it comes to giving out swimming certificates. Last week we heard how one of the youngest members of our school, Harrison, has taken a few steps walking across the pool independently. At the top end of Sunshine House, Christie has begun to swim under the water and Chase has used it as a chance to stand in the pool.

Farewell

It is with much sadness that we are saying a fond farewell to Carole, our amazing cook, who has been with Sunshine House for 23 years. Carole has decided to call it a day and retire to spend more time with her family and her new grandson. Lunches and functions will never be the same without our Carole. Have a happy retirement from all of us.
