School Comms

A big thank you to everyone who has returned the forms with emails and updated phone numbers on. We are aiming for this to be our main line of communication in the near future, so it is crucial that you return this asap. One area at parent’s evening that was commented on having improved was communication but you still feel there is more to be done. This hopefully will help the situation massively as we will be able to email letters, and text you reminders about upcoming events. Also, if you download the School Comms app, it will be easier to manage and also costs us half the price to send texts!

Parents’ Evening

Thank you to all those who attended parents evening. We had a really good turn out. If you were unable to attend but would like to meet with your child’s class teacher, please contact them directly, or contact the school office. It was lovey that so many parents commented on how polite and helpful the Year 6 pupils were. They did a grand job of collecting information for the survey, and also demonstrating the Mathletics program.

Photos

Children will be having their school photographs taken on Tuesday 1st Nov. If any children have younger siblings that are not in school and you want them to have a photo taken with your other child, please bring them to the office for 8.30am and they will have their photographs taken first. Chilren who have their siblings already in school will have their photographs taken together throughout the morning. Afternoon Acorn children will have their photographs taken in the afternoon.

Christmas (Yes…already!)

All the dates are shown in the dates column on the right hand side of the letter. Just to clarify a couple of things…

  • Christmas Fair is after school on Friday 2nd December. All welcome. Also, any volunteers who are able to help plan or help on the day, please let the office know
  • Christmas Jumper day is Wednesday 14th December, not the official Friday 16th as we thought it was nice for the children to be wearing them for their Christmas lunch. We request a £1 donation to Save the Children for each child.
  • You will shortly be receiving a letter regarding the trip to the pantomime and we will start taking payments for this.
  • Christmas Parties – we will be changing this slightly this year. All classes will have this on the afternoon of Monday 19th December. It will be in the classrooms and each phase has chosen a Christmas video. Children may be asked to dress up or bring a prop based on the film being watched and snacks/food will be served. More details on the class newsletters.
  • The morning of the 19th December will be the activity morning where children will be making cards, calendars, decorations etc. Early Years and KS1 parents are invited to join their children during this morning.

Any further information relating to activities will be sent out nearer the time.

Year 3 & 4 Cinema Visit

On Friday 18th November year 3 and 4 children have been invited to go to the Odeon Cinema to watch ‘Jungle Book’ in 3D. As this is also our non-uniform day for Children in Need, we are asking children to please wear their school jumpers to and from the cinema as it makes it easier for us to identify them. Once they have returned to school they may take off their jumper and be in non-uniform like the rest of the school.

Football

The boys football team played on the 15th October at Flowserve. The team didn't concede a goal until the final game when they finally lost for the first time. They hadn't even conceded a goal until that game but other teams had superior goal difference so they went through to the

next round instead. The team played outstandingly well, with a togetherness and team ethic that bodes well for the season ahead.

Netball

Our school netball team have had a great start to the league games. The have had three games so far with the results being as follows:-

Bishop 0 – Mount School 4

Bishop 3 – William Gladstone 0

Bishop 1 – Lovers Lane 6

More games will be planned in the new year. Yours support is always welcome at our netball matches.

Farewell

We say a sad farewell to Mrs Millican who will be leaving us on Friday. Mrs Millican is a one to one teaching assistant with a child in Yr 2. We would like to thank her for her time and dedication and wish her every success in the future.
