Dear Sir or Madam:

A storm water detention basin was constructed behind the Enger Automotive retail propertyto protect the properties downstream of the site from flooding by restricting the amount of storm water released from the retail site. An increased volume of storm water is generated by impervious areas such as buildings, parking lots, etc. A dry detention basin which stores the storm water temporarily and allows a slower release from the site was built on your property. Storm water outlets from the basin to a 12 inch diameter storm sewer through a modified catch basin with a 2.25 inch orifice.

As the property owner you are responsible for the maintenance of the storm water detention basin and associated structures such as storm sewers located on your property.

An inspection of the detention basin was made on December 22, 2009 by the City of North Ridgeville Engineering Department. The inspection indicated that the following maintenance issuesneeds to be corrected:

  1. A type M cast iron grate needs to be installed on the outlet structure.
  2. A cap on the 2.25 inch orifice pipe needs to be removed.
  3. Silt and gravel in front of the outlet structure needs to be removed.

Copies of the inspection report and photographs are enclosed for your use. The City of North Ridgeville is requiring a letter of response and resolution of these issues on or before January 20, 2010. Failure to correct the problems outlined in this letter may result in further action or penalties as described in the City of North Ridgeville Codified Ordinance 1056.08. Pleased be advised that the property owner should plan and budget for the maintenance of storm water basins. A sheet showing typical costs for basin sediment removal is enclosed for your use.
