REPORTING TODirector of Administration

Responsible For:

  • The effective and efficient operation of the IT department, including identification and implementation of strategic plans and processes to best support the business plan.

Staff Responsibility

  • Direct responsibility for the management of the IT support team.

Main Duties

  • To plan, direct and co-ordinate all operational activities of the department together with the provision of IT and IS based solutions and support the business processes;
  • Work closely with colleagues on the senior management team to derive, implement and manage the strategy of IT and IS developments that provide on-going cost effective solutions for all aspects of the organisations business activity and development and ensures IT capacity to adequately support current and projected business volumes;
  • Responsible for all IT and IS systems including, but not exclusively, in-house software, networks, telecoms, outsourced operations, bought in services and portable devices;
  • Formulate and progress IT and IS strategies that allow St Philips to achieve its key business and service objectives;
  • Optimise the utilisation of resources in delivering and supporting the solutions provided;
  • Determine the most appropriate design of infrastructure to support the business, taking into account prevailing best practices and technologies;
  • Maintain an oversight of all IT and IS projects ensuring that compatibility and integration issues are taken into account and, as a member of the project steering group, be responsible for the monitoring and control of all IT-led projects within the company;
  • Responsible for the company’s information security policy and adherence to the requirements of the Data Protection Act;
  • Control the operational costs of the IT department, including the preparation of the annual IT budget;
  • Submission and monitoring of operational budgets that meet prevailing objectives and constraints;
  • Ensure that IT and IS systems, infrastructure and stored data are secure against internal and external threats and position effective and appropriate measures for risk management and information security;
  • Oversee provision of end-user support services, including help-desk and associated technical support services;
  • Responsible for the implementation and testing of IT and IS business continuity to support the organisation’s business continuity plans;
  • Manage department staffing, including resource planning, recruitment, professional development, appraisal and disciplinary actions to provide a resilient and responsive support team that provides the specified service levels to the organisation’s users and the required skills for the technical support of the solutions in use;
  • Ensure that the structure of the IT department and skillsets present within it are appropriate to meet the needs of the business;
  • Provide regular progress reports to the Director of Administration;
  • Through working with the business, plan and implement changes to business processes to enable technologies and users to operate in an integrated manner;
  • Develop and support internal and external communications networks, maintaining the security and integrity of all systems and stored data;
  • Makes a constructive and effective contribution to discussions at managerial level, identifying with and supporting corporate policies arrived at after a process of collegiate discussion.
