2-DAY SMALL GROUP WORKSHOP

This course is suitable for therapists, custody/access assessors, mediators, parenting coordinators, child protection workers and lawyers. Toronto location: 9am.- 4:30pm.

You will learn about: differentiating types and severity levels of parent-child contact problems: affinities, alignments, justified (realistic estrangement), alienation and hybrid cases; the impact of alienation on children, adolescents and young adults; screening and assessment considerations; remedies for mild, moderate and severe cases; the role of the court; the nuts and bolts of systemic family-based interventions (reintegration therapy) for mild and some moderate case: referral/intake/screening, family therapy service agreement, educational tools and interventions, and clinical strategies and techniques.

Course Materialsprovided (some on disc) include:Book - "Children Who Resist Post-Separation Parental Contact: A Differential Approach for Legal and Mental Health Professionals"(Fidler, Bala & Saini, 2013), power point handout, comprehensive resources/seminal articles, screening & clinical intake checklists and questionnaires, sample orders, sample Family Treatment Agreement, intervention tool kit, Parent Education handout package and more.

Barbara Jo Fidler, Ph.D., C.Psych., Acc.FM. Dr. Fidler has worked with high conflict separating and divorcing families conducting assessments, mediation, arbitration, therapy and parenting coordination for over 29 years. She provides training to judges, lawyers and mental health professionals, expert testimony, and has presented at numerous conferences. She is co-author of four books: Children Who Resist Post-Separation Parental Contact: A Differential Approach For Legal & Mental Health Professionals,Emotional Harm & Parent-Child Contact Problems, Child Custody Assessments, and Challenging Issues in Child Custody Disputes and is the co-editor of the special issue of the Family Court Review (2010) on parental alienation. Dr. Fidler is a co-founder of Family Solutions andmaintains an independent practice. She is Past-President of AFCC Ontario and currently sits on the Board of Directors of Overcoming Barriers.
