PARENT-SCHOOL LEARNING COMPACT
Stanton Elementary School
(revised 11-11-13)
Effective schools are a result of families and school staff working together to ensure that children are successful in school. A learning compact is an agreement among groups that firmly unites them. This is an invitation to be involved in a partnership with your child’s school.
PARENT/GUARDIAN
I want my child to achieve; therefore, I will encourage my child by doing the following:
- Make sure that my child attends school regularly, is on time, and is prepared to learn with homework completed.
- Support school staff in maintaining proper discipline.
- Set aside a time for homework and review it regularly.
- Provide an appropriate place for study.
- Encourage my child’s efforts and be available for questions
- Stay interested in and aware of what my child is learning.
- Set aside reading time in the home.
- Communicate with my child’s teacher on a regular basis through conversations, notes or emails about my child’s progress.
- Sign homework, folders, papers, report cards and permission slips and assure their return to the teacher.
- Provide the school with updated contact information (address, phone number, and emergency contact numbers).
STUDENT
It is important that I work to the best of my ability; therefore, I will strive to do the following:
- Be to class on time and be ready to learn everyday.
- Pay attention to my teachers and ask questions when I need help.
- Ask my family to read to me or with me.
- Complete my homework on time in a neat manner.
- Follow school rules.
- Return signed homework, folders, papers, report cards, library books and permission slips to school.
- Be responsible for bringing lunch money and fees to school.
- Show respect to school staff and other students.
TEACHER
It is important that students achieve; therefore, I will strive to do the following:
- Provide clear directions in writing for homework assignments so that parents may assist their child, if needed.
- Encourage students and parents by communicating regularly about student progress, especially if a child is struggling.
- Contact parents at least twice a year by phone, e-mail, mail or in-person to convey something positive about students. This is in addition to parent/teacher conferences.
- Provide high quality instruction in a supportive and non-threatening environment.
- Ensure physical activity for all students on a daily basis (may occur indoors if weather does not permit outdoor activities).
- Provide varied learning opportunities for students to enable them to meet academic expectations.
- Hold expectations high for all students, believing that all students can learn.
- Make myself and my classroom accessible to parents and encourage them to visit the school.
- Ensure that all students are not punished for the bad behaviors of one or a few.
PRINCIPAL
I support this compact for parent involvement; therefore, I will strive to do the following:
- Provide an environment that allows for positive communication between the teacher, parent, and student.
- Welcome and involve all families during the school day and to after-school activities.
