Pancake Breakfast and Silent Auction

AMAZING event this Saturday! Special thanks to our PTO co-chairs Amabelle Cowan and Michelle Ray for their vision and creativity! Joe Zuniga made our day super special with the leader boards, heaters and sound system! Many thanks to our sponsors and the hundreds of volunteers (including our teachers and students) who made this event a success. Also, our thanks to the many friends and family who participated in bidding on Silent Auction items in our new online process! So far, we’ve netted just over $20,000 with some items still available for online bidding.

Leader In Me

This month’s habit is Synergy! When we all work together, we benefit from the collective strengths of everyone who participates in the process. Help your child practice the Seven Habits at home!

Black History Month

This week we have performances by Booker T. Washington and Sandra Organ Dance Company. Both of these talented groups of performers will present lessons that emphasize the importance of valuing our diversity. Another example of synergy since we all bring individual strengths to our collective society. We’re better together!

Montessori Accreditation

We have started the application process for school accreditation through the International Montessori Council (IMC). Ms. Aasletten is chairing this endeavor and Friends of Montessori has agreed to pay for our initial application fee. If you are interested in helping with this process please contact Ms. Aasletten.

Dress Code Reminder

Remember that jeans are ONLY allowed on Fridays along with a team or college spirit shirt. If your child arrives in jeans on another day you will need to come to school with uniform clothes.

READ, READ, READ!

Did you know….

  • that independent reading for just 15 minutes a day can expose a child to more than a million words in a year?
  • 85% of current jobs require at least some college or post-secondary education?
  • that students who miss 10 or more days of school are 6 times more likely to be retained in school?
  • that students who arrive 10 minutes late to school each day miss nearly an hour of instruction a week and over 20 hours of school in a year?

Help your child succeed at school and in life! Read with your child every day and be sure they attend school every day, on time! YOU are a Garden Oaks SUCCESS!

LIVING TREE has replaced ClassBuzz as our electronic communication system. You can receive flyers and school updates via email! Check with your teacher for your log-in information or see Ms. Acosta in the front office.
