Location: Seminole Community Library

Old Business

  1. OCLC Update.
  2. Individual library error reports have been posted online via the wiki.
  3. Becky at Clearwater will post her system of prioritizing Bib fixes.
  4. Many AV records are missing 007 fields.
  5. Over 60,000 duplicates were sent back to us.
  6. We are sharing the burden. Bonnie Potters has distributed the first 6,000 records out to each of us.
  7. Those who were not at the meeting can contact Bonnie Potters for a portion of the list.
  8. Many duplicates listed may already have been fixed since the information for the list was pulled six months ago.
  9. Please contact Bonnie Potters for more printouts as we progress.
  10. Clearwater is still looking into implementing a “floating” collection.

New Business

  1. Foreign films.
  2. As decided by the group, the 245 field should contain the title on the disc (generally the English title that the film is best known as).
  3. The original foreign language title can be entered into a 246 field.
  4. Be sure to use “on order” bib templates when ordering items. This is especially important when ordering AV so that the items display correctly in the PAC.
  5. Staff members are able to place holds on Bib records that do not have attached item records. Most Bib records almost immediately have items attached to them, so the patrons still have the same opportunities to place holds.
  6. SafetyHarbor found some erroneously merged large print and regular print Bib records that they are separating.
  7. Do not overlay “good” Bib records with on-order records.
  8. Varying libraries are still experiencing kick-outs, locked records, and slow lag times.
  9. The 006 field is still problematic in monograph records. The update should address the problem.
  10. Each library has its own deletion/withdrawing policies. If the last item attached to a Bib record is deleted, go ahead and delete the Bib record.
  11. Clearwater is bringing records in from OCLC as they have the best records. Do not overlay these “good” records with “on-order”records.
  12. Some libraries have noted that old/discarded records are still showing in OCLC. Document any findings and send to Bonnie Potters.
  13. RDA? Most automated systems have the ability to adjust to new rule changes. No word on when RDA will be implemented.
  14. Polaris will be upgraded to 3.5 soon.
  15. The ILL module will be available for testing in Polaris 3.5. Unfortunately, the training module will not be linked to any outside systems so its true usefulness cannot be ascertained.

Questions/Concerns for Polaris

  1. Why are our bib records on BookWhere when we do not utilize the ZMARC service?
