1.3DELIVERY, STORAGE, AND HANDLING

A.Delivery:

  1. Protect pipe from damage during transport.
  2. Unload in manner to prevent crushing or damage of pipe ends.

B.Storage:

  1. Stockpile pipe were bell or spigot ends are not supporting weight of pipe.
  2. Stack pipe no greater than 3 feet in high.
  3. Place quantity of pipe required for each day's work along trench line.
  4. Do not place or store pipe that will create hazard to pedestrians or traffic.

C.Handling:

  1. Inspect pipe for defects as it is unloaded and stockpiled.
  2. Unload packaged units using mechanical equipment.
  3. Do not roll or drop pipe from truck or into trenches.
  4. Insert hooks with broad, well padded contact surfaces into pipe ends.
  5. Replace damaged materials whether stockpiled or installed.

K.Grout: Pre-mixed, non-shrink, non-metallic having a minimum compressive strength of 8000 psi at 28 days.

M.Filter Fabric: Non-woven, 8 ounce per yard square density.

PART 3 EXECUTION

3.1INSTALLATION

A.Pipe:

  1. Call utility locator service 3 days prior to beginning excavation.
  2. Coordinate to determine and mark location of utilities within limits of Work in advance to allow for relocation or adjustment of utilities.
  3. Field locate underground structures and utilities, by hand digging and exposing structure or utility for full width of new trench.
  4. Provide berms or swales to divert storm water from trenches.
  5. Provide trench dewatering as specified in other Sections.
  6. Recess excavation to accommodate bells and joints to provide full bearing of pipe barrel.
  7. Protect and support utilities exposed during construction.
  8. Do not lay pipe in water, on rock, or when trench conditions or weather is unsuitable for such Work.
  9. Examine pipe before lowering into trench and remove defective or damaged pipe from site.
