Mapping additional provision

When mapping provision that is additional to modifications to whole class teaching, group and guided work, effective schools found it useful to consider different examples of intervention mapping. However, as intervention mapping is an individual process, schools found they needed to choose a format that met their own school’s context and needs. Many schools used systems or programmes they already had in school eg SIMS and Excel. This information was linked to their schools’ tracking system to which staff already had access. It also allowed them to refine their intervention mapping on a regular basis as pupils’ needs changed.

As a minimum effective schools found they needed the following headings when mapping additional interventions:

Autumn TERM 2011
Class /year group
NAME / Barrier to learning / Entry NC Level / Previous additional provision / Additional /different provision required to address needs / Time required /cost / Mid- term Review date / Final Review of impact date / Exit NC level / Comments

SALT / 3 x 20 mins pw

Schools then added additional columns to meet their own specific needs eg end of year target, end of year progress, SEN information, involvement of external services, key contact for pupil etc.

These schools also undertook regular audits of staffing expertise and cost to inform intervention planning
