- The OSHC Worker is responsible to the school Principal through the OSHC Director
Broad Purpose
Education Support Officers Grade 2 will have the knowledge, skills and demonstrated capacity for self-directed application of appropriate techniques and equipment required to perform assigned tasks of some complexity involving the use of applied theoretical knowledge and interpersonal skills. This level corresponds to a competent, skilled, autonomous worker.
An Education Support Officer Grade 2 (Extension) will (in addition to the duties of an employee at Grade 1), within a school facility such as an Out of School Hours Care or Vacation Care program, apply knowledge, skills and demonstrated capacity to perform tasks of some complexity consistent with their training. The employee whilst not responsible for the overall planning of the work will be self-directed in the application of skills possessed.

- Certificate 3 Child Studies or equivalent and working towards a Diploma or higher qualification in education
- When the Director is on leave or absent for more than one day consecutively higher duties are required and a higher pay grade will be allocated.
DUTY STATEMENT
Key Responsibilities/duties
Delivery of Quality of Out of School Hours Care
In accordance with the service’s philosophy, policies and procedures:
- Support the Catholic ethos of the school
- Liaise with the Director and in consultation with the staff develop, implement and evaluate a quality OSHC program which is based on individual and group needs of the children
- Provide supervision, guidance and support for staff, students and volunteers
- Liaise with the Director and staff to maintain clear lines of cooperation and communication
- Provide a safe and healthy environment for children, assisting the Director to ensure that the premises and facilities are secure, hygienic and in good condition
- Assist with the provision of a developmentally stimulating environment
- Provide objective written and oral observations of children while maintaining confidentiality
- Develop, implement and evaluate daily routines in consultation with other staff
- Ensure that children’s records are maintained and continually updated
- Assist children with personal hygiene where needed
- Deal with emergencies and hazards, direct other staff accordingly and report to the Director as soon as possible
- Support the service in attaining and maintaining OSHC Quality Assurance
- Work in accordance with OSHC National Standards for South Australia

This role is deemed to be a Worker under the South Australian Work Health and Safety (WHS) Act 2012.
As a Worker, while at work you must –

Experience and / or Qualifications and / orTraining
- Knowledge of and commitment to the Catholic ethos
- Approved Responding to Abuse & Neglect training and First Aid training
- Recognised childcare qualification
- Knowledge of service’s philosophy, policies and procedures
- Knowledge of a range of appropriate observation methods
- Good knowledge of OSHC Quality Assurance principles and how to support the service to develop and review this process
- Knowledge of current care practices including Mandatory Reporting and Workplace Health & Safety legislation
- Knowledge of appropriate reporting procedures and requirements relating to OSHC service
- Police Clearance to work in Catholic Education SA
- Perform any other duties/training as required from time to time by the Principal

- The employee must undertake performance review on an annual basis
- On the first anniversary of appointment and biennially thereafter, or at another mutually agreed time, consultation will occur between the employer and the employee to ensure that the duty statement is accurate and conforms with the classification levels set out in the SA Catholic Schools Enterprise Agreement
