University of Illinois Extension Nutrition & Wellness Educator, Jenna Smith, has two programs coming up in McLean County!

Food Service Sanitation Managers Certification – September 6, 9am-3pm and September 8, 9am-2pm. The Illinois Department of Public Health Food Sanitation Code (section 750.540) requires food service establishments to be under the operational supervision of a certified food service sanitation manager. This course meets the 8-hour coursework and examination required by the State of Illinois for the Food Service Sanitation Managers Certification, which is required every 5 years. After successful completion of this course, you will need to pay an additional $36 to the Illinois Department of Public Health to receive your certificate. This class will meet for two sessions on Wednesday, September 6 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and Friday, September 8 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Heartland Community College – Workforce Development Center, Room 1403 (1500 W. Raab Rd., Normal, IL 61761). Please bring a photo ID. There is a program fee of $125 per person (2 sessions). This fee is for the purchase of the book, examination, and materials. Fix More Fish – OSF St. Joseph Center for Healthy Lifestyles | Tuesday, September 12 | 5:30 – 7 p.m. University of Illinois Extension has partnered with OSF Center for Healthy Lifestyles to bring you programs on preparing healthy foods. Jenna Smith, University of Illinois Extension nutrition and wellness educator, will be teaching the class. Fix More Fish will be from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, September 12 at the Center for Healthy Lifestyles at OSF St. Joseph Medical Center (2200 E. Washington St., Bloomington IL 61701). If you are looking for a lean protein that is quick to cook, look no further; fish is your dish! Learn how to purchase and prepare different types of fish. YWCA STEPPING STONES PRESENTS “THE VERDICT: A FIGHT FOR JUSTICE” –The Verdict: A Fight for Justice, brings the audience along through an abridged rape trial. At the end of the experience, the audience will deliver a verdict. The audience will experience testimony from a detective, witnesses, a doctor, the victim, and the perpetrator. After the verdict is delivered, a guided discussion will follow. This play is for mature audiences, it is recommended those under 14 attend with a trusted adult, parent, or guardian. CRISIS INTERVENTION VOLUNTEERS / FREE TRAINING: FALL DATES
Be there for someone in crisis, either directly or indirectly, by providing support through Stepping Stones, YWCA’s sexual assault program. Forty hours of free training is required for all volunteers. Training is Tuesdays and Thursdays, September 19 – October 12 from 6-9 p.m. and Saturdays, September 23 and October 14 from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.

Public Health Nurse

This Full-time position has a 37.5 hour work week. This position has a beginning salary range of $40,263 and additional pay based on education and experience.

The Public Health Nurse provides maternal, child, and other public health services, weekdays 8 a.m. 4:30 p.m., with occasional evening and Saturday. Duties include: providing professional nursing services as well as case management services to clients in their homes or in a clinic setting, assessment, referral and followup of pregnant women, infants, and children. Prior experience in case management and Spanish speaking is a plus.
