Role: Trainee Assistant Manager

Opportunity: This role involves on-shift bar, cellar and venue management at the main High Wycombe Campus Venue. Key roles will be:

·  Staff – shift management of a casual staff team comprising of bar staff, events security staff and crew

·  Service – setting an example to all staff and leading the bar team by ensuring the venue and customer environment is in line with service standards, increasing revenue and quality of service

·  Support – providing support to the Venue Manager, Assistant Manager and Events Manager and ensuring compliance with policies and legal requirements.

Main duties and responsibilities:

1.  Responsibility for all bar and cellar operations including serving customers as a member of the team, ordering stock, assisting in stock takes, line cleans and maintaining a good GP.

2.  To learn and implement management, back office and financial procedures.

3.  To assist the duty manager during shifts as they see fit.

4.  To serve customers in a polite and friendly manner, showing high standards of hygiene, customer care and the ability to meet the customer’s needs at all times.

5.  To operate tills, take cash and give change in line with set procedures.

6.  To check the safe and float in line with financial procedures.

7.  To handle cash, stock and equipment in a secure manner.

8.  To accept bar and catering deliveries, when needed, checking the order off against the delivery sheet.

9.  To record wastage/staff drinks/food in line with set procedures.

10.  To process delivery notes, staff food/drinks, wastage sheets for the bars and catering outlets and prepare them for stock take. Any anomalies to be reported to the Venue Manager.

11.  To ensure that adequate stocks are maintained, moving stock and filling displays as required.

12.  To keep the bar and public areas clean and tidy before, during and after opening hours and to undertake cleaning duties as required.

13.  To undertake and record regular bar line cleans in line with current procedures.

14.  To control admission to the premises in line with the set procedures.

15.  To enforce fire regulations and operate the evacuation procedures when required.

16.  To protect the fabric and fittings of the premises and ensure security of equipment and stock.

17.  To ensure the safety of the customers and staff.

18.  To be observant and prevent potential problems whenever possible.

19.  To monitor and encourage appropriate standards of behaviour.

20.  To assist in the opening and closure of the Venue at the appropriate time and that the guests leave the building within the time specified.

21.  To act as an information point for guests.

22.  To work closely with the Events team and take an active role in the creation, promotion and delivery of the entertainment bookings

23.  To report all incidents to the Venue Manager.

24.  To complete incident reports as required.

25.  To employ verbal persuasion, tact and diplomacy whenever possible.

26.  To complete other reasonable duties in keeping with this job description when requested by the management.

General

1.  To be authorised to sell, by retail, alcohol in line with the provisions of the Licensing Act (2003) and the guidelines set out in the relevant handbook. (Training provided where necessary)

2.  To observe and work within licensing, health and safety, hygiene and other regulations pertaining to the operation of the premises.

3.  To work safely at all times and to report any potential hazards to the duty manager.

4.  To assist in the movement of equipment and furniture.

5.  To dispose of rubbish and associated wares appropriately.

6.  To be flexible in approach to work and undertake other duties as required.

7.  To attend training sessions and performance reviews as required.

8.  To work at any site as required.

9.  To work within a team, providing mutual support when carrying out duties.

10.  To assist in any other duties as required by the duty manager in line with this job description.

Standards required

1.  The post holder will have considerable contact with customers – they will need to act in a polite, courteous and helpful manner. At all times they will be concerned with ensuring that customers are satisfied with the service received.

2.  The post holder will present themselves for work clean and tidy, wearing the stipulated uniform which will be clean and ironed or wearing the theme dress as required.

3.  The post holder will display the highest standards of integrity and honesty at all times.

4.  The post holder will observe high standards of punctuality.

5.  The post holder will not consume alcohol or intoxicating substances whilst on duty, or arrive on duty under the influence of either.

Training and support:

The Trainee Assistant Manager will be given introductory training explaining the role and responsibilities and covering the basic skills required to undertake the role.

At least 1 formal training course will be provided as well as regular reviews to monitor set targets.

Ongoing in-depth support and development will be provided throughout the contract covering all areas of the business operation.

Time commitment: 16 hours per week plus additional hours by arrangement.

Fixed: Monday 05th September 2016 to Friday 02nd June 2017.
