FY17 Olmsted Scholar Program

General George Olmsted, who organized logistics and transportation in China during World War II, established the Olmsted Scholar Program to enhance young officer’s humanitarian skills through the development of language proficiency and regional cultural awareness. NAVADMIN 034/16, released 11 February 2016, announced that applications for this prestigious program are now being accepted.

Interested Supply Corps officers (3100 and 3107 designators) must have at least three years of commissioned service but not more than eleven years of total active duty service as of 1 April 2017. Exceptional scholastic and military performance is required. Applicants must be available to commence language training in the summer/fall of 2017 and begin study at a foreign university in 2018.

Application packages must be received by the Center for Personal and Professional Development Voluntary Education Detachment no later than 26 August 2016. The Navy board will convene in October 2016 and select up to twelve nominees from which the Olmsted Foundation Board of Directors will consider and select scholars in March 2017.

Internship Instruction Update

eSUPPO Mobile App

The eSUPPO app provides single-source access to Supply Corps news, billet listings, reference material*, community-related NAVSUP instructions, and links to community-related social media pages and websites. eSUPPO also provides detailer contact information, allows you to communicate assignment preferences and detailer satisfaction via surveys, and includes a survey capability to express your ideas to the Chief of Supply Corps.

The app, developed as a partnership between NAVSUP OP and NAVSUP Business Systems Center, is the first U.S. Navy app developed without contractor support. It was designed to be used offline making it useful onboard Navy ships and submarines. Previously downloaded content can be viewed without Wi-Fi or cellular data service. When connected to the internet, eSUPPO content will automatically update.

*Note: Recent guidance eliminated the ability to include full-text instructions that reside behind a CAC-enabled boundary. Web addresses for relevant instructions are listed inside the app.
