EXPLOREHERZEGOVINAGUIDED TOUR

The southern region of ancient Hum, ruled by Herceg Stjepan (Duke Stjepan),was later named Herzegovina after the region was conquered by the invading Ottomans.

This is the finest example of an underground karst river. It flows out of a 200m cliff wall and single-handedly creates the BunaRiver. Unsurprisingly, the Ottoman sultan was impressed, and ordered a tekija to be built right next to it. It is open to visitors all year round and serves cold drinks, tea and Turkish coffee in a beautiful garden overlooking the source of the River.

Počitelj, this quaint oriental-style town is located about half an hour's drive from Mostar, less than 30km south on the M-17 road towards the Adriatic.

Mogorjelo was built at the end of the 3rd century and two basilicas were added some time in the 5th century. It makes for an interesting excursion.

Međugorje is one of the most famous and most visited pilgrimage places in the entire Catholic world. The place, a small Herzegovinian village in the middle of rocky hills, became famous when six children saw the Blessed Virgin Mary’s apparition on the hill Crnica (on the place called Podbrdo). The apparition was a white form with a child in her arms. The first apparition happened on 24 June 1981, and it was followed by a series of apparitions seen by the same children, together or separately. Some of them have claimed to see her until today. The Virgin Mary passed to the children messages of peace, faith and love, so the local people called the place “Shrine of the Queen of Peace”. Since then, millions of pilgrims from all over the world come to Međugorje to climb up to the very place where the skies are kissing the earth to feel hope and love, and many believe that this holy place will heal all wounds on their bodies and souls.

Kravice waterfalls

The Among the most fascinating naturalistic features of this region are the sparkling waterfalls of Kravice, about 40 km from Mostar. The waters of the Trebižat River branch out, cascading from the tuff walls from a height of 30 meters, and they form a natural amphitheatre, 150-metre wide, creating spectacular effects that bring to mind, even if in a more modest dimension, the imposing Niagara waterfall is.

Popular in the summer season above all with rafting enthusiasts and by locals, it is the perfect place for all those who wish to relax and enjoy themselves in the midst of an uncontaminated atmosphere, accompanied by the constant sound of waterfalls in the background. Near to them, there is also a small grotto with stalactites made of calcium carbonate, and an old mill, all to be admired.

Herceg Ethno village, the silent stone streets, century old olive trees and beautiful haze stone walls transport you to bygone times, where the persistent man with callous hands took rocks and some land and managed to nurture grape vines, olive trees and figs.

Stone houses and interiors made of oak furniture leave an unforgettable impression of warmth and friendliness.
One of the most beautiful contributions of the Herceg Ethno village is the valuable ethnographic collection, which provides quite an insight into ancient life in Herzegovina. In addition, the village has an amphitheatre. It supports a multipurpose hall where you can organise various cultural events, conferences and seminars. Recreational activities include walking and jogging trails and also a huge recreational playground.
