ABOUT THE CROSS-CULTURAL COMMUNITY SERVICES ASSOCIATION:

The Cross-Cultural Community Services Association (TCCSA) was founded in 1973 and registered as a charitable organization in Ontario in 1976. The vision of TCCSA is to facilitate the well-being of diversified communities through social services. Our mission statement is to assist newcomers in adapting to Canadian life in their neighborhood, and to provide support to Canadians in building a stronger community.

There are currently four TCCSA office locations, located in: Toronto, York, Scarborough and Peel. The four centers provide informational counseling, LINC and ESL Language Instruction, Citizenship Preparation Classes, Volunteer Recruitment & Training, Youth Program, Support Groups, Culture & Recreation Programs, Chinese Parent Support Program, Chinese School and other programs and services related to the needs of the community.

ABOUT THE NINTH ANNUAL YOUTH AMBASSADOR COMPETITION:

The Youth Ambassador Competition is open to all students between the ages of 16 and 24. The purpose is to reward excellence and to find an outstanding Youth Ambassador to represent metro Toronto and vicinity, and to promote Canadian diversity and multiculturalism. Throughout the competition, applicants will gain experience and exposure that will benefit their education and future while given the opportunity to have fun and meet people in the process. The WINNER and the FIRST RUNNER UP will bothbe providedfree meals, local transportation (excluded airfare), admission and accommodationwhile visiting several unique destinations in China.Duringthis cross cultural adventure, there will be opportunities to visit famous cities and volunteer with several projects in the area.Embark on this trip and experience a cultural adventure of a lifetime! Time spent on this cultural exchange will never be forgotten and will impact your life forever, allowing you to make new friends in China.

ABOUT THE YOUTH AMBASSADOR COMPETITION APPLICATION PROCEDURE:

Nominators must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents,convention refugees, refugees Claimant orwork permit residence.

Applicants must be Canadian citizens, permanent residents, convention refugees,refugees Claimant,work permit residence or visa student who meet one of the following criteria:

AGE  Applicants must be youth between the ages of 16 – 24;

ACADEMICS Applicants must be in good academic standing, and be able to provide proof;

ACHIEVEMENTS  Applicants should demonstrate ability in at least one of the following areas:

  • Arts and Culture (e.g. the ability to play a musical instrument, dance, sing, etc.)
  • Academics (e.g. scholarship award, prose/poetry writing, etc.)
  • Sports and Recreation (e.g. participation in a sports team, track and field, etc.)

CONTRIBUTION TO THE COMMUNITY Applicants must have completed at least 20 hours of volunteer service,

and are required to provide references.

Applicants must submit an application package containing:

 A Youth Ambassador Competition Application Form;

 A Nominator Form;

 A typed Statement of Interest (briefly addressing the supplementary questions found on the reverse side of this paper), and

 A photocopy of your most recent unofficial school transcript

Selected applicants will be contacted for a preliminary interview in order to further determine eligibility and understand qualifications. Applicants will be required to have a 5 minute presentation, introducing themselves as well as exhibiting a performance. Applicants should expect to be interviewed by a panel of no less than three YAC committee members.

Fifteen contestants will be chosen after preliminary interviews. Those who are chosen will move on to participate in 3 events: Stage Etiquette, and Two Outdoor Community Planning Activities. The winner of the Youth Ambassador Competition will be announced at TCCSA’s Acadian Ball after the final performance.

Saturday August 13th, 2016 First Round Competition

Competition events will take place between June to December (The finale will be confirmed after the First Round)
