BAKING TIPS

Baking - Be sure to thoroughly bake all treats. Remember that when you purchase dog treats from the store, they are devoid of moisture. Homemade dog treats need to be baked long enough to remove as much moisture as possible without burning the treats. If you choose to make treats into shapes, please note that the baking time listed below will likely not be adequate. The easiest shape to ensure treats are adequately baked the first time is to use a 1 teaspoon measuring spoon to shape the dough into little balls for baking. Bake the treats until they are golden brown at the temperature listed and then when treats are cool, place them back into the oven at 200oC for 45 minutes to completely dehydrate them if they remain soft.

Storing Tips - Be sure the biscuits are completely cool before storing. Place in an unsealed plastic bags or open, cardboard box. Since these biscuits contain no preservatives, they can mold. They can also be refrigerated or frozen. The peanut butter biscuits MUST be refrigerated in SEALED bags.

1½ cups whole wheat flour

½ cup all purpose flour

1 Tbsp baking powder

1 cup peanut butter (smooth or chunky)

¾ cup milk

  1. In a large bowl, combine both flours and baking powder.
  1. In a small bowl, mix peanut butter and milk until smooth.
  1. Make a well in the flour mixture and gradually stir in peanut butter mixture until well blended.
  1. Use hands and a teaspoon to work dough into half balls. The warmth from your hands will help make the dough more workable.

  1. Bake for 15 minutes at 400°F. Cool on a rack and store in sealed, plastic bags in the refrigerator.
