Okefenokee RESA GaTAPP Admission Requirements

To be enrolled in the GaTAPP Program, candidates must:

  • Hold a minimum of a bachelor’s degree from a GaPSC accepted, accredited institution (see note below for CTAE exception)
  • Have a GPA of 2.5 or higher on their most recent degree
  • Have a passing score on the Program Admission Assessment (formerly called Basic Skills GACE) or a qualifying exemption
  • Have verification of completion of the Ethics Program Admission GACE
  • Be employed by a school district in the Okefenokee RESA service area
  • Provide evidence of subject matter competence in the subject(s) they teach
  • Meet the field-specific requirements outlined below

Early Childhood Education

  • Pass the Early Childhood Education GACE prior to admission

Middle Grades Education (Grades 4 – 8):

  • Major or concentration in at least one of the following teaching fields: Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies, or successful completion of fifteen semester hours in upper level coursework (typically junior or senior) in one of the listed fields

OR

  • Passing Score on the GACE content assessment in the teaching field

Secondary Education (Grades 6 – 12):

  • Major in the assigned teaching field or successful completion of twenty-one semester hours in upper level coursework (typically junior or senior level courses) in the assigned teaching field

OR

  • Passing Score on the GACE content assessment in the teaching field

P – 12 Certification Fields (Except SpEd)

  • Major in the assigned teaching field or successful completion of twenty-one semester hours in upper level coursework (typically junior or senior level courses) in the assigned teaching field

OR

  • Passing Score on the GACE content assessment in the teaching field

SpEd (P – 12):

Two types of Programs:

1. SpEd Teacher of Record:

  • Major or equivalent in Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies. (Equivalent is fifteen semester hours in upper level course work (typically junior or senior level courses) for Middle Grades and twenty-one semester hours in upper level coursework for Secondary)
  • Passing Score on the GACE content assessment in Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, or Social Studies

2. SpEd Consultative Teacher:

  • Major or concentration in Language Arts, Reading, Mathematics, Science, or Social Science (Concentration is fifteen semester hours of coursework)

CTAE Fields Admission Requirements (Grades 6 – 12):

  • Hold a high school diploma or GED, or an associate’s degree or higher in the teaching field
  • Have a passing score on the Program Admission Assessment (formerly called Basic Skills GACE) or a qualifying exemption
  • Additional entrance requirements outlined in Certification Rule 505-2-.90 Career and Technical Specializations or Rule 505-2-.87 Healthcare Science

Note: Candidates that are admitted with a high school diploma or GED must complete both the GaTAPP program and an associate’s degree for completion.
