The following is a weekly report concerning construction and maintenance work on state highways within the Ohio Department of Transportation District 1 which includes the counties of Allen, Defiance, Hancock, Hardin, Paulding, Putnam, Van Wert and Wyandot. This report is issued each week beginning in April and continues through November.

Did you know this transportation fact . . . ?

All traffic signals within District 1 are inspected annually and receive a complete field check of its components. Annual inspection and maintenance is important to ensuring reliable operation. The district traffic department maintains 39 traffic signals, 3,300 highway lighting fixtures and 60 school flashers.
Interstate 75 Reconstruction Project
For the most recentinformation concerning the Interstate 75 reconstruction project through Lima and Allen County, and the safety upgrade of Ohio 117/309 on Lima’s east side please visit:
  • Interstate 75 between Fourth Street and Ohio 81 in Lima will have occasional nighttime lane restrictions during reconstruction of the existing lanes of pavement, replacement of mainline bridges and reconstruction of the interchanges. Work began in March 2013 and will continue through fall of 2015. Traffic is maintained two lanes in each direction the majority of the time. Lane restrictions generally occur from 7 p.m. until 10 a.m. the following morning. The following is project information for the coming week:
Ohio 117/309 interchange
-The entrance ramp to Interstate 75 northbound from Ohio117/309 is closed as of August 29 for at least one month to allow for construction of the new northbound ramp and new northbound pavement on Interstate 75.
-Traffic on Ohio 117/309 eastbound wishing to access I-75 northbound will be directed to Ohio 117, Greely Chapel Road to Fourth Street back to I-75. Ohio 117/309 westbound will be directed to Lost Creek Boulevard, Ohio 117, Greely Chapel Road and Fourth Street back to I-75.
Fourth Street interchange
-The southbound entrance and exit ramps at Fourth Street remain closed for reconstruction. Traffic is detoured to the Ohio 65 interchange then north on Ohio 65 (St. Johns Road) to Fourth Street. Electronic message boards have been placed on Interstate 75 advising motorists to use Ohio 65. Northbound ramps are open.
I-75 Mainline
-Traffic on I-75 northbound has been switched onto the new concrete pavement from just south of Fourth Street to a point prior to the Ohio 117/309 interchange where traffic is then transitioned back to the existing pavement. This will allow crews to complete the construction of the new concrete pavement at the south end of the project.
-Paving of the new lanes on Interstate 75 in the northbound direction outside the barrier wall from just south of Fourth Street to Ohio 117/309 is completed at this time. Paving in the southbound lanes from south of Fourth Street to the Ohio 117/309 interchange is under way. Traffic on Interstate 75 could be affected at times. Motorists are cautioned to watch for concrete trucks entering and exiting the highway over the next several weeks as the operation continues.
-Motorists should be aware that all entrance and exit ramp merge areas have been shortened throughout the project area. Drivers on Interstate 75 are encouraged to use the passing lane through the zone if they do not wish to exit. Signs advising this have been placed throughout the project area.
  • Ohio 117/309is two lanes in each direction without a center turn lane from just east of the interchange with Interstate 75 to Bowman Roadduring a safety upgrade project which will reconstruct areas of the pavement and install a raised curb median in the center of the roadway. All traffic is currently traveling on the north side of the roadway while work takes place on the south. Only two lanes of traffic are maintained, one lane in each direction, from Willard Avenue (Speedway) to the west of the Interstate 75 interchange.This part of the project will be completed this fall.
-Ohio 117 between Ohio 309 and the service road behind McDonald’s will close Friday, September 6 beginning at 9 p.m. and will reopen Monday, September 9 at 6 a.m. to allow for reconstruction of the pavement and of the intersection. Traffic detoured onto Lost Creek Blvd. back to Ohio 117.Traffic on Ohio 309 will not be affected and access to the restaurants at the intersection will be maintained.
  • Ohio 81 from just west of Stewart Road to just west of Neubrecht Road east of Lima is one lane in each direction in the existing eastbound lanes for pavement reconstruction. All ramp movements are currently maintained at the interchange with Interstate 75.
Allen County
Ohio 309 between the village of Elida andEastown Road will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair. Work is being performed by Allen County ODOT maintenance garage.
Defiance County
Ohio 15 from the city of Defiance to the Williams County line restricted to one lane through the work zone intermittently for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Gerken Paving, Inc., Napoleon.
Hancock County
There are no projects scheduled during the week which will significantly affect traffic.
Hardin County
Ohio 31 just north of County Road 200 will close for 30 days in mid September for culvert replacement. Traffic detoured onto Ohio 292 and Ohio 273 back to Ohio 31. Work is being performed by Helms and Sons, Findlay.
Ohio 67 west of Kentonis now open.
Ohio 67 from Ohio 117 to Kenton will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for tarring and chipping of the roadway. Work is being performed by Hardin County ODOT maintenance garage.
U.S. 68 from the Dunkirk north corporation limit to south of the railroad tracks restricted to one lane through the work zone for resurfacing. Work is being performed by Gerken Paving, Inc., Napoleon.
Ohio 81 from the village of Dunkirk to Patterson restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Shelly Company Inc., Findlay.
Paulding County
Ohio 49 on the south end of the village of Antwerp will close for one day on September 16 for drainage work. Traffic detoured onto U.S. 24, U.S. 127 and County Road 424 back to Ohio 49. Work is being performed by Lentz Construction for the village of Antwerp.
Pavement repair will take place at the following intersections with traffic maintained through the work zone. Work is being performed by Paulding County ODOT maintenance garage:
-U.S. 127 and Ohio 111
-U.S. 127 and Ohio 613
-U.S. 127 and Ohio 114
Ohio 637 between Ohio 111 and Ohio 66 restricted to one lane through the work zone for replacement of drainage components. Work is being performed by Paulding County ODOT maintenance garage.
Ohio111 in the village of Paulding west of U.S. 127 closed July 8 for seven weeks for sanitary and storm sewer installation. Traffic detoured onto Ohio 49, U.S. 24 and U.S. 127 back to Ohio 111. Work is being performed by Underground Utilities Inc., Monroeville.
Putnam County
U.S. 224 a half mile west of the village of Kalidato the CSX railroad in the village of Ottawa will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
Ohio 108 south of Miller City to just north of Miller City will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
Ohio 694 from the Glandorf corporation limit to just north of Glandorf will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Bluffton Paving, Bluffton.
Ohio 634 between the village of Cloverdale and Road T-I-22 restricted to one lane through the work zone for drainage work. Work is being performed by the Putnam County ODOT maintenance garage.
Van Wert County
Ohio 49 inside the corporation limits of the village of Convoy restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. The project is expected to be completed during the week. Work is being performed by Shelly Company, Findlay.
Ohio 117 near its intersection with Ohio 116 is now open.
U.S. 127 three miles south of Van Wert closed August 13 for 45 days for bridge repair. Traffic is detoured to Ohio 81 to Ohio 118 back to U.S. 127. Work is being performed by Brumbaugh Construction, Arcanam.
Wyandot County
Ohio 103/Ohio 199 in the village of Carey will close for five days beginning September 16 for railroad crossing repair. Traffic on Ohio 103 detoured south onto U.S. 23 and north on Ohio 199 back to Ohio 103. Traffic on Ohio 199 detoured south on U.S. 23 back to Ohio 199. Work is being performed by CSX Railroad.
U.S. 23 between Carey and Upper Sandusky will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair at various locations, mainly at bridge locations. Work is being performed by Wyandot County ODOT maintenance garage.
Ohio 67 from Ohio 53 to Ohio 103 will be restricted to one lane through the work zone for pavement repair and resurfacing. Work is being performed by Shelly Co., Findlay.
Ohio 103just east of Ohio 53 closedAugust 19for 30 days for a bridge repair project. Traffic detoured onto Ohio 53 and Ohio 67 back to Ohio 103. Work is being performed by BCC Ohio, New London.
Ohio 53 north of Upper Sandusky is now open but potential lane restrictions could occur at various times. Work is being performed by Helms and Sons, Findlay.
