Got Wisdom?

James 1:5

Oh no, it went out again. I know how to change a light bulb! How come this doesn’t work for me. I really like this pretty lamp but I despise having to change this light bulb (sigh). God, can you help me figure this thing out? And with that simple request, immediately my eyes fixated ona screw to the side of the lamp that could be unscrewed to easily release and remove the old bulb and replace it with the new bulb. Thanks God!

The Word of God says wisdom is the principal thing, therefore get wisdom (Proverbs 4:7). Some may ask how can or do I get wisdom? James 1:5 tells us that if any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. (NIV)In 1 Kings 3, after making sacrifices unto the Lord, God appeared to King Solomon at Gibeon in a dream and extended him the privilege of asking for whatever he wanted from God. Rather than ask for riches, fame, or the destruction of his enemies, Solomon asked God for a discerning heart to distinguish between right and wrong to govern His people. Solomon’s request pleased the Lord so much that not only did He make Solomon the wisest king ever known to live but he also favored him with much wealth and honor. Solomon showed God he was more interested in knowing how to manage his responsibility and assignment in leading His people as king, than in enjoying the comforts and conveniences that came along with the role of being a king.King Solomon knew that true wisdom came from God, and if he wanted to be successful in his assignment he was going to need God’s help and His wisdom.

God does not want us struggling with trying to figure out how to manage or deal with situations, circumstances, or even people, that we encounter. Rather, He says if you donot know what to do, don’t worry or fret about it because I am here. Don’t fuss with that thing (or person) but come to me and I will show and tell you great and mighty things you did not know. (Jeremiah 33:3.)Let me help you handle it all.

God says when we ask, He will answer. Just like God was pleased and answered Solomon’s request for understanding and discernment when he asked for it, He is likewise pleased and responds to our requests for wisdom when we ask for it. God does not look down on us in disgust when we are unable to figure out the answer to the issue. No, He waits for us to look up to Him from whence comes our help.

So, the question to you today is – do you need wisdom? God says ask Him.
