Fixit hints

Emblems peel easily from their backing paper and can de applied to any clean, reasonably smooth and/or polished surface.

Sizes 100 – 200mm diameter are best fitted by lifting the backing paper for approx. 25mm and folding it to expose the adhesive. The emblem can then be accurately positioned before removing the rest of the backing paper and pressing down firmly to seal the emblem.

  1. Large emblems 300 – 1000mm need a large flat surface to avoid wrinkling. If it is to be mounted on a board, we suggest Foamex board or sheeting as this is easily cut (Stanley knife). It is light, can be punch holed and reduces the risk of accidents. The board can be mounted or hung and can be bought on a roll (3mm thickness) or in varying thickness boards.
  1. Make sure the surface you are applying it to is clean and smooth
  1. Because of the difficulty in maintaining flatness whilst applying the emblem, we suggest wetting the surface of the board so that the emblem can be slid into position. Mix a teaspoon of washing up liquid into warm water and, if you have one, a spray bottle
  1. Liberally spray the entire surface with the solution until the mixture runs down in rivulets
  1. Get a friend to help at this stage
  1. Gently remove the backing sheet from the back of the graphic - do not attempt this in outdoor windy conditions as any flying particles may stick to the adhesive side
  1. Not forgetting to peel the backing paper and following the procedure above, the emblem is then sponged from the centre to expel any air trapped between the faces. Mop up excess fluid.

Feedback:- One of our customers reports that soaking the emblem before application until the backing paper softens enables the paper to peel off easily and the vinyl can be “floated” onto and positioned on the prepared surface. Remove trapped air with a squeegee!

Emblems do not adhere permanently/readily to clothing or flexible fabrics and the adhesive may cause damage to materials such as suede..

Emblems can be laid on plastic sheet, painted and enamelled surfaces, coated tarpaulin.

The surface must be flat for application and, preferably, held taut. If solvents have been used to clean surfaces they must be thoroughly dry and the solvent evaporated.

Never fold an emblem! To store, preferably keep it flat. If used on banners etc, roll the banner from the ends and lay rolled ends atop the emblem.

If you have received separate lettering with your order, you will find that this is reverse matched. Position the emblem and offer up the lettering before removing the adhesive covering paper. Faintly mark on the board the centre of the lettering at its position beneath or above the emblem, ensure it is horizontal and make a further mark.Remove the front covering and offer the lettering to the board in the marked position. Remove the backing paper.

In the unlikely event that the release of the backing sheet from the vinyl is difficult, take two pieces of sticky tape (Sellotape) and fasten either side of the emblem, near the edge, and gently pull the paper from the vinyl. Remove sticky tape from the emblem and clean adhesive from the surface.
