About the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade

The role of the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT) is to advance the interests of Australia and Australians internationally. This involves strengthening Australia’s security, enhancing Australia’s prosperity, delivering an effective and high quality overseas aid program and helping Australian travellers and Australians overseas.

The department provides foreign, trade and development policy advice to the Australian Government. DFAT also works with other Australian government agencies to drive coordination of Australia’s pursuit of global, regional and bilateral interests.

About the position

The Research Officer/Interpreter undertakes research and prepares reports on political, social and economic issues; provides interpretation and translation; and organises visits, meetings and events.

The key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·  Interpret at meetings and translate documents (political and economic reports, articles and related material).

·  Undertake research and draft reports/cables/diplomatic notes on political, economic and social issues relating to Turkey, Azerbaijan and Georgia.

·  Assist with the organisation of visits, meetings and events (preparing programs and accompanying if necessary as liaison officer).

·  Collect, analyse and assess various political and economic data.

·  Establish and maintain good relations/key contacts with relevant government agencies, think-tanks, academia, civil society institutions and business community.

·  Attend and report on events (seminars, conferences, meetings, panels, forums) held by various NGOs, think-tanks, business institutions and universities on political, social and economic issues.

Qualifications/Experience

·  Fluency in English and Turkish, and experience in interpreting/translating

·  University qualifications in social sciences, politics, international relations, economics or languages.

·  A sound knowledge of Turkish and international politics.
