Dear Parents,

This week our class continued the pumpkin unit. On Monday, the studentscompleted pumpkin math activities and were introduced to addition equations using pumpkin pictures. On Tuesday, the students played pumpkin number dice games with their 3rd grade buddies from Mr. Lorch’s class. On Wednesday, the students had fun using templates to trace and cut out bats for our classroom tree with Mrs. Tessa during OT group. On Thursday, the students completed a Venn diagram using pictures to compare and contrast apples and pumpkins. They learned that both apples and pumpkins have seeds, stems, and grew from flowers. They also learned differences between apples and pumpkins, such as color, vines, and trees. Today, each student wrote a sentence describing his/her pumpkin from the field trip using star words and color and shape words.

On Thursday, October 29th, we will be having the “Chase Away Cancer” Pin Guard games during PE classes and thetournament after school from 4-6pm. All students who donated money to St. Baldrick’s will be receiving their t-shirts to wear at school on Thursday. I will be playing on the Wheaton Fire Department team for the Tournament, and I look forward to seeing everyone who attends the tournament to help support our classmate, Chase, and the St. Baldrick’s foundation.

On Friday, October 30th, please send your child’s Halloween costume in his/her backpack for the all-school Halloween parade. We will help your child change into his/her costume during Recess on Friday. The Emerson Costume parade will begin at 1:30pm. If you would like to take pictures, please line up in front of the school or along the playground in the back of the school. Our class Halloween party will begin at 2:15pm. Thank you to all of the parents who have volunteered to plan the party, make healthy treats, or bake a special treat. I appreciate all of your help to make the day special for the students!
