PURPOSE OF ROLE:
To exercise professional skills, under the direction of the Kitchen Manager, in the preparation, production and finishing of a wide variety of food dishes according to the menu and using modern catering technology, recipes and work methods.
To use catering skills in the serving of food and replenishment of service areas and the clearing and cleaning of the kitchen and, when required, the dining room.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- To prepare, cook and produce fresh and convenience foods as directed using the methods and recipes specified. This will include vegetarian meals, culturally-appropriate meals and special needs requirements.
- To assist with the setting up and clearing of the counter, serving of food, and supervision of self-service of food at the service counter, assisting in replenishments as necessary.
- To assist in the clearing, cleaning and washing up within the kitchen, including “in depth” cleaning using any specialised products and methods authorised.
- To work at all times in accordance with Health & Safety and Food Hygiene Regulations standards.
- To direct the work of kitchen assistants or trainees if required according to correct methods and safety rules laid down.
- Use of a high level of cooking skills in the production of new food dishes using modern food technology and methods in accordance with current catering policy.
- To assist where possible with the daily clerical duties within the kitchen and to be responsible in the Kitchen Manager’s absence for receiving, checking and banking of cash as appropriate.
- To be responsible in the Kitchen Manager’s absence for the receipt of all goods, checking, issue and security of stores.
- To undergo training, in both formal courses and on-the-job, to develop cooking and kitchen organisational skills so as to be able to develop potential and to take charge of the kitchen in the absence if the Kitchen Manager.
- Where and when required to be responsible for the servicing and cleaning of vending machines, checking of cash and record keeping.
- To undertake any other duties of a similar level and responsibility as may be required from time to time.
The duties in this job description will be carried out in accordance with Part IX of the School Teachers’ Pay and Conditions Document 2000, or any subsequent document which may succeed the 2000 document.
