  • Foam Ops: Select percent (1, 2, 3, or 6%), Tank to Pump, Water Valve, Foam Valve, Pump 200 PSI, open discharge slow
  • Shutting Down Foam: Close Foam Valve, Reduce to 100 PSI, Open Foam Flush, Meter to 6%, Open all Discharges 3 min
  • Disengaging Pump: Idle down, “N”, wait 5 sec. for tranny to stop before pump shift disengaged
  • Panel Drains: (Driver Side) D 1/2/pony below conn., (Officer Side) D 1/2/3/pony below conn.
  • Other Drains: Pump Drain bottom L beside step, Front Suction under running board below L pump panel

E-ONE TELEBOOM (specific to Teleboom)

  • Mode Button: -“3” f/ city, “D” for highway
  • TELMA: push brake slightly f/ slick roads
  • PTO Operation Only: “D”, PTO, “N”
  • Pump and PTO Operation: “D”, PTO, then activate pump gear
  • Activating PTO When Pumping: Shut down pump before activating PTO
  • Check Engine Light: when pushed in, no throttle in cab or at pump panel
  • Fast Idle:1,200 RPM
  • Side to Rear Throttle: set pump pressure/relief valve, idle, throw switch to rear throttle
  • Rear to Side Throttle: idle, throw switch to side throttle
  • Pump Pressure f/ Boom:180 PSI
  • Boom Operation on Slopes: do NOT operate boom on grade > 6%, < 6% operate to UPHILL side
  • Tank to Pump: just below Discharge 4
  • Officer’s Side Pump Panel: Discharges 1-4, 5”, 2 Pony suctions w/ 4” storz, 3” w/ storz
  • Drains: All on Officer’s side, (including waterway, another at rear)
  • Ladder Tip Controls: for nozzle only, not ladder

  • Foam Ops: Water Valve determine GPM, set metering control, Foam Valve, Pump 125-250 PSI
  • Foam Ops w/ Hydrant Water: gate down intake to 10 PSI or less

  • Shutting Down Foam: Close Foam Valve, Close Eductor Valve
  • Flushing Foam System: Hook to Hydrant, Flush each Discharge even if not used, Keep Tank Valve/Tank to Pump closed
  • Check Engine Light: When pushed in foot throttle disengaged, 2 then 5 flashes means OK, other codes report to shop
  • Aerial Signs of Trouble: drifting hydr. cylinders, ↑ oil PSI/consumption, ↑ noise/vibration, bad movement, contamination

  • Boom Flowing @ 80o: Horizontal reach 4 feet, working height 50 feet, tip 400# or 600# distributed
  • Boom Loads NOT Flowing @ 80o: tip 800# or 1,400# distributed
  • Boom Flowing @ 45o: Horizontal reach 28 feet, working height 42 feet, tip 400# or 600# distributed (loads same as 80o)
  • Boom Loads NOT Flowing @ 45o: tip 800# or 1,400# distributed (same as 80o)
  • Boom Flowing @ 0o: Horizontal reach 42 feet, working height 11 feet, NO LOADS
  • Boom Loads NOT Flowing @ 0o: tip 500# or 800# distributed
  • PTO Engagement: “D”, PTO IN, “N” (air pressure required 70-140 PSI), engaged in any gear if low idle
  • Outrigger Deployment: Master PowerON, BOOM/JACKS switch to JACKS

  • Oil Fill: front right engine 15w40, 41 qts
  • Trans. Fill: rear right engine
  • Radiator Fill: top engine, check recovery bottle too
  • Primer: behind cover right side of pump, 30w, 1 gal
  • Pwr. Steering: left side rear engine, Dexton II
  • Hydraulic Fill: below pedestal, oil visible in screened filter, add within 2” of lower edge of filler opening

  • Normal Operating Temp:180-190oF

  • Hydraulic Failure: Gravity to retract/lower, Porta-Power pump f/ rotation & stabilizers

  • Annual Maintentance: Bearings, Planetary, Gear Teeth, Bolt Torques, Pivot shafts, pins, & bushings
  • 50 Hour checks: Return Line & Pressure Line Filters (replace w/ spin-on 10 micron cartridge)
  • Spongy/Erratic Response to Controls: Air entering hydraulic pump
  • Cylinder not responding or Slow: pressure, obstruction, defect, packing, piston rod, or control or counterbalance valve
  • BoomFalls short distance when raised: Air in hydraulic system
  • Cylinder-actuated component drifts after positioning: packing or holding valve bad
  • Air Entering Pump Test: hydraulic fluid applied to seals (fluid sucked in)
  • Contaminated System: ↑Temp, oil PSI change, matter in filter, water in oil, noisy pump
  • Hot Flushing Oil: low viscosity napthenic stocks f/ good solvent action
  • Purging Air f/ Hydraulics: Raise few degrees, lower, then raise little higher each time (rotation R/L until smooth)

BECKER ENGINE

  • Battery Switch: below & left of driver seat, 2 position ON/OFF
  • Starter:15 sec., 60 sec. wait
  • Low-Air Pressure Light/Buzzer: on until F/R brakes have 60 PSI
  • Tranny:5 forward speeds, 1 reverse, forward ranges auto except 5thgear (Mode button, RED LED when in 5th)
  • 5th Gear: highways only, NOT for town
  • Neutral Start Switch: engine starts in any gear but “N”, switch is bad, notify shop
  • “D”: shifts auto from 1st thru 4th
  • “3-2”: greater engine breaking
  • “1”: low gear, mud & snow, maximum engine driving/braking power
  • LowRange (1,2,3) Upshift: will NOT auto-upshift to gear higher than selected gear unless governed speed is exceeded
  • Overhead Switch Panel/Class One Load Mgr.: controls all emergency lighting
  • Class One Load Mgr: sequences lights on in priority 1 to 8 (off in reverse order), does NOT control DOT lights, will NOT turn off beacons on light bar or rear rotators, turns off white flashing lights at front of rig (per NFPA)
  • Shedding (when parked): low volts f/ 1 min. = shed f/ 5 min. (maintains unshed voltage at least 1 min.)
  • Fast Idle:12.8v f/ 1 min., then fast idle f/ 10 min & until 13v achieved
  • Pump Engagement: “N”, Pump Shift to PUMP, “D” (Pump Engaged light & OK to Pump light ON)
  • Primer:60 sec. MAX (normal: 15-45 sec., then check f/ leaks)
  • Pump Disengagement: Idle on Fire Commander, “N”, 0 MPH on speedometer, Pump Shift to ROAD
  • Electronic Fire Commander (EFC): 2 modes RPM & PRESSURE (changed w/ mode button w/o idle change)
  • Program EFC: hold Mode & Menu, Menu to scroll, Inc & Dec to change, Idle save changes, Menu discard changes
  • RPM Mode: Throttle Ready LED on, PRESET f/ pre-programmed RPM, INC f/ +25 RPM, DEC f/ -25 RPM
  • PRESSURE Mode: PRESET f/ pre-programmed PSI, INC f/ +4 PSI, DEC f/ -4 PSI
  • f/ Pressure Mode: Pump Engage, Okay To Pump, & Throttle Ready LEDs must be ON f/ pressure adjustments

CHEVY 3500 BRUSH PUMPER

  • Auxiliary Pump: Kohler 18 hp/Hale pump, 6gal unlead, 350psi, 90gpmOil: 30w 1 ½ qts, Trans. Case Oil: 80-90w lube
  • Wait To Start: light off before starting
  • Fuel Filter Restriction Light: light glows, change filter ASAP
  • Water in Fuel Light: (fuel filter/heater/separator) light RED = stop engine, drain filter bowl
  • Engine Oil Pressure: shut down if no reading within 20 sec., below NORMAL, stop & check oil
  • Engine Temp: coolant temp, “H” (hot) stop engine, no danger unless our of NORMAL band
  • Redundant Engine Light: calibrated f/ max engine temp and low oil pressure (if light on check gauges, shut down)
  • Voltmeter: after start moves into white area, RED while driving or Battery Symbol on, have electrical system checked
  • Brake System Warning Light: glows when ignition in start position & when park brake not fully released
  • Brakes: hydraulically boosted power brakes and dual master cylinder hydraulic system
  • Starting: (on visor), “P” or “N”, everything off, >32o press pedal halfway, <32o press gas pedal fully, 30 sec. MAX
  • Glow Plugs: cycle up to 2 min., if engine not started before cycling ends, reset by turning ignition to off
  • Warm Engine: start w/ gas pedal at fast idle position
  • Stopping Engine: low idle 3-5 min before shut down
  • Cold Weather: lighter grade oil, warm up few min., <20o diesel may thicken & clog filter, fuel tanks >1/4 full
  • Diesel: contains naturally occurring paraffin which turns to wax when cold, fuel filter/heater/separator melts wax
  • Snow Ops: remove connector tube between air cleaner and intake duct (draws warm air f/ compartment f/ air intake)
  • Emergency Starting: 12v w/ neg. ground., AC on while jumping (voltage surges), passenger side battery only
  • Jumper Cables: + Dead, + Booster, - Booster, - Dead, start good car moderate speed, run few minutes before starting
  • 2H to 4H: stop, shift lever straight back to 4H, auto-lock hubs engage when driven
  • 2H w/ hubs locked:increases fuel consumption, noise, vibration, and wear (on dry pavement, disengage)
  • Auto-Lock Hubs: when engaged, switch f/ 2H to 4H at ANY speed, hubs may disengage if rig rolls slightly (reverse)
  • In 4H: clicking is heard when rig is reversed (momentarily disengages auto-lock hubs) re-engages when resume forward
  • 4H to 2H: shift lever straight forward to 2H at ANY speed.
  • Disengaging Auto-Lock Hubs: operate in 2H in opposite direction f/ 10 feet
  • Shifts between 4H and 4L: stop, “N”, transfer case shift knob down & same time lever to 4H/4L (continuous motion)
  • Transfer Case Stuck in “N”: let vehicle roll slightly and/or turn ignition off
  • Shift Into & Out of “N”: auto trans. In “N”, transfer case shift down & same time lever to “N” (only f/ towing)
  • Shift f/ “N” to 4H or 4L: auto trans. In “N”, transfer knob down & same time lever to 4H/4L (difficult=let roll/turn off)
  • Hard Pavement: disengage 4WD (if on hard pavement in 4WD, MAX 20 MPH)
  • Starting Med. Pressure Pump: choke, tank-to-pump, mid-throttle, starter 15 sec. MAX, release choke
  • Stopping Med. Pressure Pump: throttle to idle, stop button
  • Prolonged Pump Running w/ No Water Flowing: Tank Fill and Bypass pulled, engine throttled down
  • Ops f/ Water Under Pressure: open feed line, start engine, open discharge valve, open throttle gradually
  • Past Most Efficient Point: engine speed increases w/o corresponding increase in pressure
  • More Discharge Pressure w/ Source under Pressure: use smaller tips
  • (Winter) Draining Med. Pressure Pump: start, open suction, open recirculation valve, open & drop low pressure hose in tank, disconnect high pressure nozzle & connect hose to manifold, run 50 PSI MAX
  • Filling Through 2 ½” Intake: turn off Aux. engine
