Grading:

40% Formative (vocab quizzes, portions of homework)

60% Summative (tests, papers, portions of homework)

Second Chance Learning:

SCL is used to ensure that all students have the opportunity to become proficient in the course content. Students will have the opportunity for SCL at the teacher’s discretion. Formative Assignments: The purpose of formative assignments is to reinforce concepts taught in class; therefore students who can demonstrate effort yet do poorly on a formative assignment may have the opportunity to re-do the assignment or parts of the assignment to practice key concepts. Only assignments turned in on time will be eligible for SCL. This must be completed outside of regular class time within 5 days of when the assignment was returned to the student. Due to the nature of certain class activities, not all formative assignments may qualify for SCL.

Summative Assignments:In order to take advantage of SCL on a summative assignment, students must complete an action plan to demonstrate a plan for remediation, which will be approved by the teacher and parent prior to retesting or resubmission. All re-learning opportunities must be completed outside of regular class time within 5 days of when the assignment was returned to the student. If the redo/retake grade is higher than the original grade, it will replace the original grade. Second-chance learning is not meant to be used as a regular practice by a student or as a substitute for lack of preparation.

Late Work:

Work received a day late will automatically lose 10%, two days late 20%, and so on. No late work will be accepted after 5 class periods. In addition, and taking precedence over other rules, all late work must be turned in prior to the Unit Test on the material.

Flex:If you would like to talk to be about a concern you have you can ask me to flex you. If you have missed an assignment, have a D or F in the class, I will request you.
