Evaluate your school’s lunch menu over a three day period. List each lunch item, the class of nutrients it provides, and what food guide group it belongs.

Choose a popular song and change the words to promote good nutrition. You should have the instrumental and write out the words.

Book Project
Create a resource about healthy eating for elementary-age students, called
The “Alphabet Book of Healthy Foods.”
The book should include
• A cover page
• An original drawing of the Food Pyramid labeled with drawings of common foods for each category.
• For each letter of the alphabet include: a picture of a healthy food beginning with that letter name, and a description of the nutritional benefits. / Board Game:
Create your own Board Game using the information we learned on Nutrients, Food Labels, and the Food Guide Pyramid. Include vocabulary you have learned from this unit.
Must have instructions, and all game pieces attached so someone can actually play it.
Think of games such as Candy Land, Monopoly, Life, etc. / Extreme Makeover!!!
Go to a vending machine and take a picture of the contents.
Research the calorie and fat content of each of these products.
Make your own vending machine that would offer students a variety of healthier foods. Include the calorie and fat content of each of the new and improved contents of your vending machine.Include a drawing or schematic for your vending machine.
Make sure you include choices for vegetarians and athletes.

Design a name, logo, and menu for your restaurant using Publisher or similar programs.
Your menu must include Appetizers, Salads, Entrees, Desserts, Drinks and a Kids Menu. Have at least 3 items for each category.
Remember to offer low calorie options.

Extra Credit: Create a commercial for your restaurant using Photostory or Moviemaker. / Recipe revision:
Find 2 recipes your family uses often for dinner or lunch.

Extra Credit: Prepare the food (list the ingredients used *in case of allergies*) and share with the class. / Burning Calories with Activity:
List 10 of your favorite foods/snacks you eat. Research the calories and fat for each item. Then calculate how many calories different activities burn.
Make a mini book with this information to show other people that when you eat something it will take this amount of exercise to burn it off. It should include the picture of the food item, the calorie and fat information and at least 2 exercises you can do to burn it off.
