Sparkedit v3.02 tutorial

THIS is a tutorial on using sparkedit. Now to get started you will need to have sparkedit, and the sparkify patches, which make maps editable by sparkedit (makes sense, sparkify, sparkedit). Now to apply those patches which can be downloaded off of you need ppf-o-matic, which you can get by Googling ppf-o-matic download. Now open ppf-o-matic, and where it says ISO file, hit the floppy disc, then down at the bottom change it so it says all files, this will take you to a window where you can browse to your halo maps folder, once this is done, click on bloodgulch and hit open, then where it says patch back on the ppf-o-matic screen, hit the same button, but this time go to where you saved ppf-o-matic. Open the bloodgulch specific one. Now hit apply. You will have patched your bloodgulch and it is then editable.

Now open up sparkedit, and fit file, open cache file.

Now browse once again to your bloodgulch map. After doing this go to tools and then options and change the bitmap directory to c:\program files\microsoft games\halo trial\maps\bitmaps.map. now the bloodgulch map should pop up, and from here a variety of things can be done…

Moving Items

Now to move Items all you have to do is first select the item, (must go to edit tab first and select the items type, mp equipment is to select weapons, vehicles for vehicles, and scenery for scenery, etc.) by clicking on it.Then hit tab on your keyboard, now click on it again but hold the click, and drag it where you want the item. It will have moved. But that’s simple.

Duplicating Items

So to do something more advanced, look by the top of the window, and you will see two pages, click them, now there will be two of it. This will come in handy later.

Swapping Items

Now lets say you want to make a sky base, to do this you will need to swap some scenery items. First, select scenery in the edit tab, then select any scenery item, now look down and you will see swap, hit the drop down box and select the fallen tree trunk scenery item, you will see a very mossy log come up in place of the scenery item, now move the log to where you want the beginning of the skybase, and then duplicate it and move that where you want it, and continue until you get something like this.

Here is a video of me making one of these.

So now that we have that finished, I will get into something a little more complicated.

Importing Items

To import items into maps that don’t normally have them it requires more that just sparkedit. You will need hht (halohackertools) you will need the sparkify patch for this also, but it only needs to be applied once. Now open hht and find the ghost tag in vehicles. Hht works just like Hmt so if you can find the vehicle tag in Hmt it will be the same in HHT. Once you have found the ghost, look towards the side of the window, and you will see, vehi, yyyy, and yyyy, now change the vehi to make it scen. Now hit save. Back in sparkedit, go to tools, and import tag into scenario. Now in scenery you will see the ghost that you changed. Now what you can do from there is take any scenery item, and make it a ghost, because sparkedit thinks that ghosts are scenery items. Not such a smart program is it. Put as many ghosts as you feel like. You have now completed a beginner tutorial. If you would like to move on to more, complicated, sparkediting you may try the PMI (perfect model injection) which allows you to import objects from other maps into bloodgulch, or even objects that you made yourself.
