Kindergarten Academy Title 1 Parent Involvement Policy

·  The Kindergarten Academy Parent Involvement Policy was developed with the Title 1 Reading Specialist and parents.

·  The Kindergarten Academy Parent Involvement Policy will be distributed to all parents of Kindergarten Academy Title 1 students.

·  The Kindergarten Academy Parent Involvement Policy is written in a format that is understandable and in language that parents can understand.

Parent Meetings, Workshops, Conferences

Through workshops, conferences, and/or meetings, the Kindergarten Academy will provide assistance to parents in understanding the State’s academic content standards. Parents will also be informed of local academic assessments and how to monitor their child’s progress, how to work with teachers to improve their child’s progress, and how to work with teachers to improve the achievement of their children.

Parent Information Meeting

·  A meeting for parents of students in the Kindergarten Academy Title 1 program will be held annually in the Fall for the purpose of:

o  Informing parents about the Kindergarten Academy Title 1 program

o  Title 1 eligibility requirements

o  Current curriculum

o  Types of assessments used to measure student progress

o  Proficiency levels Kindergarten Academy Title 1 students are expected to meet

Workshops

·  Through district workshops, parents of participating children will learn more strategic ways to support and work with their children.

Spring Parent Policy Meeting

·  Kindergarten Academy parents will be invited to meet every spring to review and/or revise the policy. This may be done through an open house or a different meeting.

·  Each year a parent/school/student compact will be signed delineating how parents, the entire school staff and students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement.

·  The Kindergarten Academy Parent Involvement Policy states that Title 1 funds may be used to pay for reasonable expenses associated with parent involvement activities. These expenses may include, but not limited to, childcare and transportation to and from school related meetings, literature, and parent training sessions.

·  Kindergarten Academy Title 1 parents will have the right to participate, as appropriate, in decisions that relate to the education of their children. If requested by parents, the district will respond to suggestions as soon as it is practical.

Communication

·  Through the school newsletter and/or Title I parent letters, Parent Informational Meetings, Kindergarten Academy Title I parents will be provided with timely information about the Title I program and the reading curriculum in use at the school.

Conferences

·  The Kindergarten Academy Reading Specialist will be available for parent conferences in person, by phone, or through email during the two regularly scheduled district parent conferences in the fall and spring. In addition, the Kindergarten Academy Reading Specialist and parents may meet on an as needed basis at any time during the school year for the purpose of discussing any problems and concerns.
