I.Course Description

This conference will assist educators in developing an understanding of the performance accreditation system for school improvement. The workshop will provide sessions on process topics along with an opportunity to work with expert facilitators in developing monitoring a school improvement process that meets AdvancED/ NCA accreditation guidelines, as well as the State Education Improvement Process and ND MILE.

II.Course Content

The major components of the course will include the following topics:

  • Overview of the improvement process
  • Building a school profile
  • Selecting and reviewing school improvement goals
  • Gathering and analyzing data
  • Documenting and reporting student progress
  • Hosting and chairing peer review visitation teams
  • Best practices in instruction, student engagement and professional development

III.Outcomes

As a result of their participation in this workshop, participants will develop and demonstrate the following outcomes:

  • Understanding of school improvement and accreditation
  • Develop and understanding of the processes involved in each of the phases of the model
  • Analyze their school’s progress in meeting the guidelines established for school improvement.
  • Develop the ability to design, implement and monitor a school improvement process.
IV.Course Requirements
  • Attend the full schedule of workshop sessions on both days and participate in discussions and activities.
  • Complete a reflection paper of how the information from the workshop will be used to implement or adjust the school’s current school improvement plan.

The reflection paper is due to Angie Koppang by October 31, 2012. It may be sent as an email attachment to r mailed to Dr. Angie Koppang, 3731 Daytona Drive, Bismarck, ND 58503.

Please address the following focus question in a reflection paper. Your responses should not exceed a total of three pages (double-spaced). The assignment should be submitted as a Microsoft Word document via email attachment to Dr. Angie Koppang () by October 31, 2012.

Incomplete / Paper was not received. Arrangements must be made with the instructor to request an extension of time to complete the paper. If this request is not made by the due date, the grade will be recorded as an F.
