POSITION: Accounts Payable/Payroll Officer

LOCATION: Darwin

POSITION OVERVIEW

The North Australian Aboriginal Justice Agency Ltd (NAAJA) provides legal aid for Indigenous people in the Top End of the Northern Territory, with offices in Darwin and Katherine.

NAAJA’s Finance section provides the highest possible level of financial processing, reporting, financial accountability, financial systems, processes and procedures and advice to the CEO, Board and relevant stakeholders.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

The Accounts Payable/Payroll Officer reports to the Accountant

DUTIES

1.  Process NAAJA’s fortnightly payroll in a manner consistent with the relevant policies and procedures while maintaining the highest levels of confidentiality

2.  Liaise with staff to explain and/or resolve payroll issues

3.  Coordinate salary review processing

4.  Maintain accurate payroll records including correspondence and filing

5.  Prepare termination calculations and letters for checking by the Accountant

6.  Process accounts payable (creditors) in a manner consistent with the relevant policies and procedures. This will include setting up payments, coding and relevant ledger postings

7.  Liaise with suppliers and stakeholders as required to resolve accounts payable queries

8.  Coordinate corporate stationery and travel accounts including purchasing (as required), reconciliation and payment

9.  Other Finance and/or HR administrative duties as directed

SELECTION CRITERIA

Essential:

1.  Experience in an accounts payable role using an automated accounting package and/or Experience in a Payroll role using an automated accounting package. If you have experience in only one of these areas, then the ability to quickly acquire the knowledge to deliver in that area is required.

2.  Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality

3.  Demonstrated attention to detail

4.  Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines

5.  High level communication skills including the ability draft written communications such as letters and basic procedures

6.  A strong commitment to and ability to understand and follow, policies and procedures

7.  Awareness of current issues facing Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people and sympathy with the aspirations of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

8.  Ability to obtain a “Working With Children Clearance” (Ochre Card) upon commencement

9.  Satisfactory criminal history check and no history of disqualification from employment by a legal practice.
