2018 Jump Rope for Heart

Final Update

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our 2018 JUMP ROPE FOR HEART participants!

Thanks to the efforts of our 190 JRFH student participants, their families, friends and the staff at MES, Mechanicsville had another amazing JRFH Program. It is with great pride and gratitude that we announce our 2018 JRFH TOTAL:

$13, 529.00!

To accomplish this feat, we had enormous support from the entire Mechanicsville Community. We wish to thank everyone involved with this very worthwhile project.

Please be patient as we await the arrival of our JRFH prizes. We have been reminded by the AHA that it usually takes 4-6 weeks to receive our prize shipment once the forms have been received and processed. Please know that we will work diligently to package and distribute our students’ prizes as quickly as possible once they arrive at MES.

THANKS ONCE AGAIN FOR YOUR SUPPORT!

Ms. Murphey & Mr. Tumulty

MES Reads

We have about a week and a half left of our MES Reads program. Many of our students and families have been enjoying reading Escape from Mr. Lemoncello’s Library together. Our MES Reads Night Celebration will be held at the Finksburg Library on Tuesday March 27th from 6:00-7:30 pm. Please join us to read the final chapters of the book together and celebrate our reading journey. During the evening students can participate in a variety of activities (photo booth, face painting, scavenger hunt, Bee-bot mazes and crafts).

Hope you can join us! Mrs. Goldsmith- Media Specialist

Character Trait for March is

“Connection”

Children with close ties to family, friends, school and community are more likely to have a solid sense of security that produces strong values and prevents them from seeking destructive alternates. Family is the central force in any child’s life, but connections to civic, educational, religious and athletic groups can also increase a young person’s sense of belonging to a wider world and feeling safe with it.

Some questions to ponder when considering how connected your children are to the broader world include:

  • Do we build a sense of physical safety and emotional security?
  • Do I understand that the challenges my children will put me through on their path to independence are normal developmental phases?
  • Do my child express their emotions and understand that going to others for emotional support during difficult times can be productive?
  • Do we address conflict and work to resolve problems?
  • Do we have a common space where our family shares time together?
  • Do I encourage my children to take pride in the various groups and organizations to which we belong?
  • Do I foster healthy relationships with others?
  • Do I protect my friends’ and neighbors’ children, just as I hope they will protect mine?
