Job Reference: 177-CORP-873-NED

Employer:

James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Department:

177 Trust Board Level 5

Location:

Great Yarmouth

Salary:

£12,800 per annum

The James Paget University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust serves a population of around 230,000 people in the Great Yarmouth, Lowestoft and Waveney areas. The Trust provides an integrated hospital and community children’s service.
Patent and staff experience is important to us and these are the behaviours we live by:
Putting patients first
Aiming to get it right
Recognising that everybody counts
Doing everything openly and honestly

Why not become a Non Executive Director of your local hospital?

Position 1 – Quality lead and an experienced clinician, £12,800 per annum September-November; Board Committee Chair from 1 December 2017, £14,000 pa

Position 2 – Legal training required, £12,800 per annum

Duration: 3 years, a minimum of 3 days per month, various days as required

Following the successful recruitment of one of our Non Executive Directors to the position of Trust Chair and the retirement of another later in the year, we are seeking two new, dynamic Board members from the local community to join us and contribute to running our successful NHS Foundation Trust.

We provide acute hospital services to the population of Great Yarmouth and Waveney and a substantial number of visitors to the surrounding area of Norfolk and north Suffolk. Our first priority is to ensure our patients remain central to everything we do and that they always come first.

The Care Quality Commission recently rated us as a Good Trust. The Chief Inspector of Hospitals Sir Mike Richards said our staff “were exceptionally caring and went the extra mile for their patients”, something we are particularly proud of.

Although overall we are doing well, the financial situation remains an ongoing challenge for us, despite making significant savings last year. We see this as an exciting opportunity for the Trust to embrace the level of change required in the next few years through doing things very differently and transforming the way in which we deliver our services. This means that we will need to be bold in our decision making to place us at the forefront of innovative working practices.

We are developing a more commercial approach, focusing on business development opportunities and maximising the benefit for our patients. We see this as an important factor in increasing our income to help us develop our site and non-clinical services.

As a corporate Board member, you will work with other Non Executive Directors and the Executive Directors, taking full responsibility for the success of our organisation.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real contribution to the healthcare of your local community. We want Board members who are:

• Passionate about the quality of care

• Have excellent interpersonal skills, with the talent for influencing change

• Able to relate to groups and individuals at all levels

• Have the ability to question, challenge and be independent minded

• Strategic thinkers, giving consideration to complex challenges

• Honest with integrity and high ethical standards.

We are specifically looking for:

Position 1 – An experienced clinician to lead on quality governance and the Board’s Safety and Quality Governance Committee when the current chair retires later in the year – the timetable for this appointment enables a three month handover

Position 2 – Legal training to support the Board in ensuring the appropriate level of analytical questioning and consideration of the future structure of healthcare, the increasing partnership working and the importance of the right governance and decision making

Prior to making an application please refer to the 'Additional Documentation' sections and specifically the 'Non Executive Director candidate pack'.

For an informal discussion please contact the Chair’s PA on 01493 452680 to arrange a discussion with Anna Davidson, Chair or email directly
