Nomad™ Aqua 9200
Installation in recessed wells / Procedure
Technical Information MSWP 13
Issue date : December 2002 Supersedes: New Author: DA. Page 1/3
Steps / DO / DO NOTRecessed well requirements: / Use a scrapper to clean the well, the corners and along the sides.
Check the mat well to have an even depth of 17 to 19 mm and a flat surface.
Measure each side of the well to ensure the sides are square and straight. / Do not recommend installation in too deep matwell, with bumps or large ridges.
Product requirements: / Unroll all matting close to the actual area, topside down.
Allow mat to be flat and come to room temperature (20°C) for at least 2 hours, or preferably the night before.
Necessary Tools: / · Scrapper
· Utility knife and replacement blades
· Straight edge
· Protecting gloves from cutting risks
· Marker, Measuring tape
· Scissors for cutting fibers if fluffed sides
· Hot air gun for heating cut sides
· Glue 3M Scotch Grip 2141 for seaming pieces together or for gluing NA 9200 to an underlay / Do not use scissors.
Special recomendation for a good uniformity in colours: / In case of several mats placed side to side, pieces should be cut in the same roll or with the same lot number. Lot variation is exceptionnal but a slight variation in colour can be visible on pieces installed side to side.
Moreover, be careful about sense of tuffting : it is a random pattern but installation of 9200 pieces according the same direction will optimise colour uniformity.
Steps / DO / DO NOT
cutting and installing mat in recessed well: / I-If recessed well is a perfect rectangle:
I-1. Measure sides of recessed well.
I-2. Substract 5 mm to width and length measured to have real dimensions for a good cutting and fitting in recessed well.
ex : recessed well is 1000 mm wide and 2000 mm long.
Mesurement reported on the mat to be cut should be 995 mm wide and 1995 long.
I-3. Mark these measurements on the material, on latex backing side
I-4. From latex backing side, cut to exact size.
For a perfect result :
· use utility knife with a new blade and straight edge
· knife blade must stay perpendicular while mat is cut
· it is better to proceed in two steps :
Ø a first cut will cut the foamed latex layer
Ø a second cut will cut tuffted fibers
I-5. Cut with scissors longest remaining fibers from cut sides
Heat with hot air gun cut sides in order to soften and shrink fibers. Use a fine nozzle, set temperature at approx 120°C degrees.
This finishing operation strenghen sides and is especially mandatory for sides exposed to traffic lane.
I-6. Place the cut mat in recessed well.
I-7. If recessed well is larger than 2 meters, 9200 can be joined with a special glue for latex or rubber. For instance, 3M Scotch-Grip 2141 glue.
II- If recessed well has bot an irregular shape:
II-1. Make a template of the recessed well as for Nomad Optima. See procedure MSWP 03 NO9900 measurements
II-2. Place the template on NA9200 piece, on latex backing side.
II-3. Follow with a fine pen the shape of template to draw it on latex baking side.
II-4. Do as the same way as described in previous paragraphs from I-4 to I-7.
Steps / DO / DO NOT
Making joins: / 1. Bonding 2 mat pieces must be done parallel to traffic lane
2. Place pieces of matting to be seamed side by side on a clean floor. Be sure flat side of mat is down on both pieces to be seamed.
3. Apply a film of 3M Scotch-Grip 2141 with a brush on cut edges to be joined.
4. Let dry at least 15 minutes to let surfaces dry completely. Surfaces must not be tacky any more.
5. Once they are dry, press firmly glued surfaces to bond them.
6. Wait at least 1 hour before opening to traffic.
Underlay : / 1. Use either
Ø plywood resistant to water (marine quality)
Ø or 3M underlay in recycled rubber 5mm or 10mm thick
2. Pre-measure the length to be cut and mark it on the material
3. Cut to exact size using a saw or utility knife and straight edge.
4. Install into the well and fill the entire surface of the well. / Do not bond pieces of rubber underlay material together.
Do not stack more than 2 layers of rubber underlay in a well.
