NO MOBILE DEVICES WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION

GPJH Theatre -- NO MOBILE DEVICES WITHOUT PRIOR PERMISSION

Mobile electronic devices (i.e., cell phones) are wonderful tools for the classroom; however, young people are still learning when and where mobile devices are acceptable. Mobile devices can cause distractions and disruptions, or they can enhance our lives.

I believe strongly that it is important for students to learn appropriate use of technology in the classroom, in college, and in their future place of employment. However, I also have observed that many students need guidance when it comes to learning appropriate times and places to use their mobile device.

Therefore, my rule is “No mobile devices without prior permission.” This includes all mobile electronic devices and accessories. HOWEVER, there are activities when students absolutely MUST NOT have out their mobile devices for any reason. These activities are:

* Most whole class and small group activities where a mobile device is not necessary to complete the assignment

* Rehearsal and performance (whether actor, crew, or audience)

* Viewing film excerpts and other media clips

If a student is caught using a mobile device during any of the activities listed above, the mobile device WILL be turned into the office without a warning.

For SOME activities, I may have a group designate ONE MEMBER of the group to use a mobile device. In that case, any other cell phone that is out or on will be taken up. All students who use technology in the classroom are expected to use them responsibly and follow all GPISD rules and state and federal law.

CONSEQUENCES OF USING A MOBILE DEVICE WITHOUT PERMISSION IN THEATRE:

Students may lose their mobile device if they have them out or on without prior permission. I may a) warn them, b) keep the device until the end of the period, c) keep it until the end of the day, or d) turn the device into the office where a parent will have to pay $15 to pick them up. Which consequence depends upon the attitude of the student who is involved, and whether or not there have been any prior behavioral issues.

***I also reserve the right to take up all phones at the beginning of each class whenever I feel it is necessary and return them all at the end of that class.***

In the end, it is simplest to remember: “No mobile devices without prior permission.”

I have read and will respect the above mobile device policy of GPJH Theatre, as well as all technology policies of GPJH and GPISD. Student ______Parent ______Date _____
