1. Monthly Spaghetti Dinner at Anna’s House: Starting in August on the fourthWednesday of the month, the sophomore class will help cook and serve a Spaghetti Dinner to families from Lucious Newsom’s ministry. Anna’s House is located at 303 N. Elder Street 46222 on the west side of town just west of IUPUI. We have set up the dates of August 26, September 23, October 28, December 9, January 27, February 24, March 10, April 28 and May 12 as the Wednesdays for this dinner. Sophomore students applied for and were awarded a grant for this monthly spaghetti dinner for two years now with United Way Youth As Resources.
2. Saturday Food Distribution: The sophomore class officers will be helping to lead passing out food at Anna’s house on Saturdays this year. If sophomores would try to commit to help out four times during the year, we could have over 10 people helping each Saturday. We may ask for parental assistance to coordinate drivers on Saturdays with the food distribution. If any parents could commit to driving once a month, please let Mrs. Halstead know. Food distribution takes places at Anna’s house between 9 until 12 PM.
3. Collection Drives
Toys: Last year Lucious shared his need to have toys for the children at Christmas time. The Sophomore class is organizing a toy drive on December 6th in conjunction with the Ring Ceremony to help collect toys for the children in the Lucious Newsom ministry. If each sophomore would like to help keep the magic of Christmas alive for families served by the Lucious Newsom ministry, toys will be collected at the ring ceremony on Sunday, December 6th at 4:30 PM in the auditorium. If sophomores will not be participating in the toy drive, they are welcome to bring the toys on Monday, Dec 7th to the SLC Commons outside Mrs. Halstead’s office. In conjunction with the toy drive, sophomores may also assist Mrs. Molloy on Saturday, Dec 12 to help organize the toys by age and boy/girl classification at 9-11 AM. Santa will be distributing the toys from Anna’s house on December 19th. The address for Anna’s House is 303 Elder Street Indpls, IN 46222.
Snacks: Cathedral hasbeen working with Mrs. Molloy helping to pass out snack for the children and reading to the children in Spanish. This year the Spanish Classes would like to have a bilingual book and snack drive to help with snacks and reading for children in Lucious’ ministry. A snack drive may be held inthe fall.
4. Lenten Family Prayer Partners Project. In February and March, a $25 potluck dinner in a box will be offered for any Cathedral family to unite as a Lenten prayer partner with a special family from the ministry at Anna’s House. The sophomore class will deliver the dinners, along with an Irish blessing prayer, to the recipients on Monday, March 16, 2009. An Irish blessing, which will list the names of the Cathedral family who will be praying for therecipient family, will be given to the families who will receive the March 16th dinner. In addition, the sponsoring Cathedral family will have received an angel prayer with the names of the partner family they have sponsored. During the Lenten period, and afterwards, these two families will support each other through prayer.
