2017 HARRY S. JORDAN SCHOLARSHIP FUND

The Niagara Orleans Labor Council will award three (3) five hundred dollar ($500) Scholarships. The Jordan Scholarships will be awarded to two eligible High School Seniors. The Jordan applicant must be a child, grandchild or a legal dependent of a union member’s immediate family. These scholarships are in honor and memory of the late Harry S. Jordan, a past president of the council and labor activist. The Presidents Scholarship is awarded to an active adult member, child, grandchild or a legal dependent of a union member’s immediate family in good standing who is continuing his or her education.

The completed application must be submitted to the Niagara Orleans Labor Councils Selection Committee by Friday, May 12, 2017. Applicationmust have authorized Union Local signature to be eligible for scholarship. Mail application to the Harry S. Jordan Scholarship Fund Committee, c/o Bill Jakobi, United Way of Greater Niagara, 6420 Inducon Drive, W Suite B2, Sanborn, NY 14132.

The winner will be chosen by the Niagara Orleans Labor Councils Selection Committee, he or she and sponsoring local union committee will be notified by mail. If you do not hear from the Selection Committee by Friday, May 19, 2017, you may assume that another applicant was chosen as a winner.

RULES AND INSTRUCTIONS FOR APPLICATION

All Applicants

1.The application is to be filled out neatly and completely.

  1. Submit completed application to sponsor(s) local union selection committee. (multiple affiliations, sponsor(s) may submit one application to each qualified local union selection committee)
  1. Eligibility:
  1. Complete Pages 3 and 4
  1. Jordan Scholarship Applicant must be a high school senior that can verify proof of admission to an institute of higher learning.
  1. Presidents Scholarship Applicant must verify proof of attending a college or institution of higher learning or non-reimbursable accredited certification program.
  1. It is the responsibility of the local union selection committee to insure eligibility, completeness of application and confirmation to the AFL/CIO scholarship committee.
  1. The Local Union may choose the candidate by their standards of selection and forward one candidate for each scholarship by Friday, May12, 2017 to the Labor Council’s Selection Committee.
  1. The AFL/CIO Niagara Orleans Labor Councils Selection Committee will review all applications, and will select the winners.
  1. All expenses incurred by the local union selection committee shall be the responsibility of participating local union.
  1. The Council’s Selection Committee will notify winners by Friday, May 19, 2017.
  1. The news release will be the responsibility of the Council’s Selection Committee.
  1. The applications shall remain with the Niagara Orleans Labor Council.
