NHSGGC Hillrom Bariatric Bed Rental Options

Option / Criteria for Ordering
(A Moving and Handling Practitioner should be contacted where possible prior to ordering these beds)
Pro Axis
/ This bed is a little wider than a standard electric bed (~6cm) and is therefore mainly suitable for patients weighing 220kg (35st) or less.
Consideration should be given to a patient’s size and shape. Patients who weigh less than 200kg may still be too large (wide girth) to be accommodated safely on this bed, particularly with regards to rolling the patient onto their side. The maximum patient weight the Pro Axis bed can accommodate is 350kg, therefore, patients above 220kg who are not too large may fit on this bed.
This bed can be lowered to 30cm (15cm lower than a standard bed) which may assist smaller patients to get in / out of the bed.
Dynamic mattresses are not available for this bed, therefore, it is suitable only for patients with intact / low risk pressure areas.
This bed cannot access F and G block on the Western Infirmary site.
This bed, if used in wards within medical, centre and surgical blocks at GRI, cannot be used to transfer patients in the lifts
TotalCare Bariatric Plus / This bed is a little wider than a standard electric bed and has a maximum patient weight of220kg (35st).
This bed should be chosen instead of the Pro Axis if:
  • A therapeutic mattress is required as the patient has existing / high risk of developing pressure area tissue damage; and/ or,
  • An accurate weigh scale is required; and / or,
  • A turn assist mattress is required to assist with rolling the patient and / or positional changes

1st Call Baros Bariatric
Mattress:
Standard - Sapphire alternating low air loss
Optional - Comfort Turn / This bed should be chosen for patients not suitable for the Pro Axis / TotalCare beds due to their weight and / or shape and is suitable for patients weighing up to 400kg (63st)
This bed will come as standard with an alternating low air lossbariatric mattress. At the point of delivery when the patient is transferred onto the bed, the patient’s weight will be measured by the installation team if requested. The following options must be considered prior to placing an order:
  • Where the patient cannot assist with rolling and / or staff are struggling with this activity, the ‘Comfort Turn’ bariatric mattressshould be requested.
  • Where ongoing monitoring of a patient’s weight is critical to their care, a bed with a weigh scale should be requested. Note that the weigh scale will raise the lowest point of the bed by ~ 4cm. This may decrease a patient’s ability to get in / out of the bed.
  • Installers will offer to weigh patient on delivery.
  • Lowest height for patient egress = 36cm
