Newsletter No 59 (aka 2016-29) – 13 Sep 2016
Last weekend:A huge vote of thanks goes out to Andy T for arranging the Triathlon Training Morning on Sunday. A small but dedicated pack of Hounds turned up at the Cotswold Water Park for a group swim / ride /run organised by Mr T. It appears that all had a good time, with the possible exception of the organiser who, despite having apparently recce’d the bike route, still managed to get lost...
Meanwhile, up on the Ridgeway, Simon Rawlins took part in the Hackpen Hill Trail Run. No sign of results, but it would appear the lone Hound did rather well. Great job Simon!
This weekend…
Kat Wheadon and Chairman Rob will be taking part in the Swansea 10k, a nice flat there n’ back along the seafront on Sunday. On Saturday, Kat may also tackle the Colby parkrun, a lovely little three lap event on NT property that makes the Swindon event look rather flat. Oh wait, it is… J.
Oh, and just in case you’re still not aware, Mark Rogers is taking part in Ironman Wales on Sunday. The event starts on North Beach at 07:10, when the professionals hit the water, and the finish line closes 17 hours later. If you’re anywhere near Tenby get yourself out on the course and cheer on these athletes as they race around Pembrokeshire on what is quite possibly the toughest Ironman out there. If you’re in town during the afternoon, cheer the runners as they complete four laps on the marathon, and do make the finish line which is especially great for a spectator experience.
Mark is raising money for the Alzheimer’s Society – please check out the link and make a donation. Good luck Mark, we all wish you well.
Swindon Half Marathon
By now most, if not all, of you will have heard the sad news that this year’s Swindon Half Marathon has been cancelled due to a lack of funding. Read more about it here and here. Not to be undone, our Club Captains, Lorraine and Jason, have decided to replace it with Stroud (see below for the link). Apparently it fills up quick, so get in early!

Remarkably, despite going past The Angel in the first 100 metres, even the ten Hounds running in support kept going! Well, there were ten there at the end…
Thanks to all who came along, it’s going to be a great course.
