Update

On July 14, 2013 the Atlantic City Police Department took Danny Roberts into custody, without incident, as he walked across a casino floor. Roberts was turned over to the Egg Harbor Township Police Department for the Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer and Eluding charges. Municipal Court Judge H.R. Switzer set bail at $75,000.00 full and Roberts was lodged in the Atlantic County Justice Facility.

Original Release:

On July 4, 2013, at approximately 4:16 pm Egg Harbor Township Police Officer Kevin Devlinattempted to conduct a motor vehicle stop for various motor vehicle violations on the Black Horse Pike in the area of English Creek Avenue. The vehicle, black SUV, pulled to the side of the road but instead of coming to a stop accelerated to a high rate of speed passing numerous vehicles west bound on the shoulder of the Black Horse Pike. Officer Devlin did not pursue the vehicle due to the reckless nature of his driving.

The vehicle’s registration came back to Primrose Court in the Woodlands, Hamilton Township,and Officer Devlin responded there. While checking the area for the vehicle, or the residence, a black SUV was observed coming in his direction. The SUV accelerated directly at him. Officer Devlin had to jump from the police motorcycle he was riding to avoid being struck by the vehicle. Officer Devlin was not injured and was able to get back on his motorcycle to attempt to locate the SUV, along with Hamilton Township Police officers. The SUV was found abandoned a short distance away and the suspect had fled on foot. A search of the area by numerous officers failed to locate him at that time.

The suspect has been identified as Danny Roberts, 23 years of age from Mays Landing. He is described as a light skinned black male 6’5” tall and approximately 250 pounds. Roberts has numerous tattoos on his neck, hands and arms. Warrants have been issued for Roberts arrest for Eluding and Aggravated Assault on a Law Enforcement Officer. Roberts is also facing numerous motor vehicle charges and is wanted on additional warrants by the Atlantic County Sheriff’s Department.

An investigation into this incident determined that Roberts was picked up by his mother, Sherry Johnson (46 years of age from Mays Landing), in the taxi she drives and driven from the area. Johnson was arrested and charged with Hindering Apprehension and released on a summons.
