News from the Waen
Candlelit Christmas Craft Fair December 10th 1pm-4.30pm at Waen Congregational Chapel. Do call in to buy local hand made crafts and unusual Christmas gifts in addition to Christmas decorations, Christmas produce homemade mince pies, Xmas puddings etc. Admission is free and there will also be refreshments available. All proceeds donated to St Kentigern Hospice and Outreach for older people.
Good Wishes. Katy Mawdsley has recently travelled to South Africa to work as a voluntary teacher for 10 months and we also send our good wishes to her brother Gareth Mawdsley on his recent marriage to Rachel
Waen Christmas Market in aid of St Kentigern Hospice . Many thanks to everyone who called in to support this event. As usual the first stall to sell out was the Christmas food to the disappointment of many people, but come to the Christmas Craft fair on 10th December where there will be more Christmas food for sale! The total for this day at present stands at nearly £4,000. Thank you to everyone who supported the day and many thanks also to all who helped in any way to make this event yet again a success and to the small group who take considerable time to organise and plan the market each year. We have donated a remarkable £32,000 to St Kentigern Hospice from this event.
Bereavement. Mrs Joy Rodick Waen Villa passed away unexpectedly at home aged 90 years . Mrs Rodick had lived in the Waen for over 60 years and was well known in the community. We send out sympathy and thoughts to her husband Mr Rupert Rodick and to her sister Mrs Phyllis Scott Tai Cochion. We also send our thoughts and sympathy to Mr Dylan Willams and family Awelog on the sad death of Dylan’s father and also to the family of Mr Ifor Lloyd Jones Bala who had strong family connections with the Waen
Children’s Group – The chidlren’s group meets at the Chapel on the last Sunday of each month at 10.30 am – at our last group everyone enjoyed the story of Noah and making their own little arks to take home. As usual the morning finished with pizza and a drink. Everyone is looking forward to the Christmas services and celebrations. Our thanks to Auntie Elen Wyn for organising the group.
Thursday day care – our day care group goes from strength to strength with four new member in the last few weeks and we hope that Mr Meirion Jones will soon be home and be able to join us again. We congratulate one of our dedicated volunteers Rhiannon Ifan on becoming a grandmother for the first time to Branwen Rhys and also Mrs Elsa Evans one of our members who became a great grandmother for the first time to Owain. We have also welcomed visitors from the county council and Llyr Huws Griffiths Assembly Member who were all very impressed with what is being achieved.. Many thanks to all our hard working volunteers who ensure that everyone who attends has a very special day.
Farmyard Nativity Service December 18th 3pm – Please join us again this year for a special nativity service where we visit the stable to see who was at the manger on the first Christmas morning. Please meet at Chapel, wear suitable clothing and shoes and bring a torch . After the service there will be refreshments for everybody
Carols for Busy People Decmber 24th 4pm. This is a 30 minute family candlelit carol service with all your favourite carols and readings – there will be a small gift for all children attending - all welcome
