Principles of Agricultural Science and Technology

This course Provides instruction on the foundations of the various segments of the agricultural industry. Agricultural career opportunities will be emphasized. Animal Science, plant and land science, and agricultural mechanical skills will be the focus of the curriculum. The selection and planning of a supervised agricultural experience program and related record keeping will be presented. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Students will receive personal guidance and counseling with preparatory instructional program selection.
Agricultural Construction Skills I

These courses prepare students to construct and maintain agricultural structures and equipment. Students will develop basic skills such as: tool identification, interpreting plans, calculating a bill of materials, electrification, carpentry, welding, metal fabrication, plumbing, and masonry. Content may be enhanced with appropriate computer applications. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to have a supervised agricultural experience program. This course may be extended to two credits offered on a two-hour basis provided that instruction is enhanced with laboratory experience, project construction, and in-depth skill development.
Agricultural Structures & Design (Constr. II)
Prerequisite: Agricultural Construction Skills Technology preferred

This course is designed to develop skills in maintenance, repair, and operation of equipment and small combustion-type engine motors. Content may be enhanced with appropriate computer applications. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to have a supervised agricultural experience program.
Agriscience

Agriscience introduces the scientific agricultural approach to animal science and selection, and plant and land science. Agricultural career opportunities will be emphasized in each class. Laboratory experiences relating to basic and current technology will be a part of the program.
Small Power & Equipment
1 CreditOpen to Grades: 10-12
A course that describes theories, principles, and the application of operating, repairing, maintaining of power equipment and small engines. Content may be enhanced with appropriate computer applications. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to have a supervised agricultural experience program.
Small Animal Technology
1 CreditOpen to Grades: 10-12
This course develops scientific knowledge, management practices, and marketing strategies in small and specialty animal technology. The curriculum includes identification, anatomy, physiology, nutrition, health, selection and care of small animals. Content will be enhanced with appropriate applied scientific laboratory activities and computer applications. Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to have a supervised agricultural experience program.
Veterinary Science

This course introduces students to the field of veterinary science. Major topics include veterinary terminology, safety/sanitation, anatomy/physiology, clinical exam, hospital procedures, parasitology, posology, laboratory techniques, nutrition, disease, office management & animal management. Careers are also explored. . Leadership development will be provided through FFA. Each student will be expected to have a supervised agricultural experience program.
Animal Science

Students enrolled in this course develop knowledge and skills pertaining to livestock identification, selection, nutrition, reproduction and genetics, health management and marketing of one or more species of farm animals. Biogenetics application is integrated into this course.
Advanced Animal Science
Prerequisite: Animal Science

Landscape and Turf Management I
Prerequisite: A minimum of one Agriculture Course

This course is an introduction to pruning, planting, fertilizing and mulching used in landscape maintenance. Experiences in the calculations of materials needed and associated costs are covered. Practical experiences include advanced equipment, technology, and safety issues related to landscape maintenance.
Landscape and Turf Maintenance
Prerequisite: Landscape and Turf Manage. I
This course focuses on the types of turf and the identification and control of insects, weeds, and diseases. It includes the calibration of seeding, spraying, and fertilizing equipment; preparation of maintenance schedules for turf and seeding; and renovation techniques. Practical experiences include the use of tools, equipment, procedures, supplies, and safety procedures related to the turf management industry.
Florticulture/Floral Design I/Landscape Design (Floral Design II)

Florticulture and floral design provides instruction to develop floral design techniques using silk, dried, and fresh flowers. Students will learn operation and management of plants used in floral design and interior landscaping. Course content includes: floral design techniques using silk, dried, and fresh flowers; operating and managing a florist shop, interior plantscaping, and identification, production, and cultural maintenance practices of plants used in interior landscapes. House plant identification will be emphasized.
Greenhouse Technology I

Greenhouse Technology provides instruction in greenhouse structures and greenhouse environment regulations. Plant growth and development and propagation are included as well as production and maintenance of bedding and container produced plants. Fundamental principles of vegetable production and commercial production of vegetable crops may be included.
Greenhouse Management (Tech II)
Prerequisite: Greenhouse I

This course covers procedures for plant identification, culture, and control. Practical experiences provide the opportunity to study plant growth and development. *Course content fulfills requirement for O-Net certificate.
GardenCenter Management
Prerequisite: Greenhouse Management & Instructor approval

This course introduces various career opportunities in a garden center and focuses on salesmanship and business practices utilized in this environment. Identification of characteristics, usage and care of woody ornamentals, use annual and perennial plants, as well as information needed by the consumer are included. Assisting customers in choosing chemical pesticides and plant-related products is discussed.
Agriculture Co-op
Requires: Agriculture Credits (3 by end of coop year)
2 CreditsOpen to Grades: 12 (11 by permission)
This course is a work experience for students who have employment in a recognizable business relating to the career major of agriculture. Students may leave campus early to gain experience in the workforce.
